Well, the house hunt continues. The price drop and the interest rate cancelled each other out. I talked to the loan officer and it looks like that door is slammed shut, BUT...I found something else that's coming up soon that's REALLY in our range. I've got fingers AND toes crossed this time. It's half hour away in a smaller town, but it looks cute and in good shape from what I can tell. We'll see.

If this doesn't work, I give up and we'll buy a tent! Hope it doesn't come to that.

Esteemed colleagues, I have been perusing the news of what is going on in Ukraine.

Russia is in a box with poor military leadership, lousy demographics, poor morale, and depleted logistics.

If the Ukies cut the rail lines, Russia’s loggies are not gonna be able to properly resupply the front lines.

So, what next?

NUKES.

Putin has one ace up his sleeve and that is his stockpile of nuclear weapons.

This is major! Complete paradigm shift coming.

Will it stay local and tactical or grow to be all-out war?

Let us all pray for peace while we prep for the worst.

However, I am thinking 75% probability it goes nuclear.

Oh, and have a nice weekend!

Top Rice-Exporter India Curbs Shipments, Adds To Fresh Food Inflation Fears

Bloomberg reported India imposed a 20% duty on white and brown rice exports and banned shipments of broke rice -- parboiled and basmati rice were excluded from the export duty and/or trade restrictions. The new curbs apply to about 60% of India's rice exports and go into effect Friday.

Our assessment is that it will stay localized as long as it only involves one or two tactical-yield nuclear detonations. NATO won't get involved and Ukraine will surrender.

However, that lull will be temporary. Whoever crosses the nuclear threshold first opens the door for others to do so as well. Won't be long after that.

If Russia uses strategic nukes or uses several on Ukraine population centers, the EU might step in at that point, and then it will go global.

There can be a "limited" nuclear war if Russia and NATO are not the ones exchanging the missiles. If Russia detonates one or two tactical nuclear weapons (low-yield, very clean) over Ukrainian military targets only, it might stop there. MAYBE.

India and Pakistan would also be an example of a "limited" regional nuclear war.

But, generally speaking, you're right. Once someone else sets the first one off, it suddenly become easier to use your own. If Russia does pop one off, get home fast. Just in case.

I expect if one is set off, by anyone, the third world nuclear powers will start setting theirs off. North Korea has been itching for years, just to name one.

Thanks for the offer of your shed! LOL Hopefully, it doesn't come to that! We haven't got the "get out of Dodge" letter yet, either. The other closest neighbors that also rent to the company haven't moved out yet, either. I think the economy has a lot to do with that.

We're starting to receive RUMINT about something going on in Moscow, potentially something political in nature. We know there has been a resistance comprised of Russian citizens functioning within Russia since the invasion began that has a stated goal of overthrowing Putin's government. Not sure exactly what's going on yet, and it might turn out to be nothing. But for right now we're classifying the activity as "unusual."

we are in a slow-burn SHTF now. the strings that tie society together are getting weaker.

prediction- at best, we have til 2024-2025. by then, it will b obvious to the public. death rates for covid infected and vaxed will b too high. loss of workers becomes critical, especially for trained skilled positions such as electrical grid operators and medical staff. wharehouses of supplies of food, energy<oil/coal>, raw materials, tools and equipment, and parts for repairs will b used up.

govern knows this and their kick the can down the road, cover ups, and "all hands on deck" policies are working to buy time while they search for a solution. covid is ahead so far that time is speeding up toward the collapse.

do u not hear the warnings and govern's working to keep ppl calm? food scarcity. but nobody is dying-even as baby formula ran out. "govern has it under control". power grid disruptions-blamed on a war. is it? or is this cover for lack of workers and part failures? lack of oil outputs from OPEC. lack of fertilizer- is this not lack of raw materials to make it? water issues- doesn't that need to b treated before ppl drink it? more materials missing? even if farmers grow the food, it needs to b packaged to haul it and sell it. even crime rates up.

are they not things u'd expect in a SHTF? if they become "normal" won't this delay society breaking down? changes at the CDC and other world leaders- is this not a CYA move? conveniently they have someone to blame.

we are speeding up toward the downfall. life as we knew it is gone. the public will realize this soon. it doesn't turn dark at midnight, it starts getting darker much earlier than that. "at best 2024-25", doesn't man we have til then. that was as things were, however the situation is fluid and continues to get worse. MP will push society closer to the bottom. mutations continue. covid reinfects time and again, each time taking more years off ppl's lives.

the next outbreak to go global is due by Halloween. most likely, it will b deadlier than the MP has been. the govern's have thrown out the tool that worked to slow covid. the lock down folder has been shredded, at least the old way of locking down. oh, what plans the govern is making? u won't like it at all.

What's really going to throw a monkey wrench into the already broken system is that 2024-2025 is pretty much when I expect Americans to turn on each other and for the simmering hatred between liberals and conservatives to finally erupt into full-scale violence.

This train was set in motion on these tracks over 40 years ago and there's no stopping it until it derails. I've moved to the very back of the train so I can watch it happen from a fairly safe vantage point and jump off at the last minute if it works its way back to the last car.

It's my personal opinion based on analysis of posts and comments from both the both far-right and far-left. It's no longer just a difference of political ideology; each side actively hates the other and believes violence is required to "save America" from the other side.

This mid-term election will be an early indicator, and the 2024 election will most likely be the final straw. I'm not going to try to predict an exact date because I don't believe in that crap, but I think there will be an incident, initially just another news story, that will end up being the trigger for widespread violence across the country. I don't know what it will be, but it will result in violent protests that will make the summer of 2020 look like a town hall meeting.

What sucks is it will start with political extremists, but will spread to include people who do not think violence is the solution. They will be forced to use violence to defend themselves or perish. Thus, it will become a self-sustaining reaction.

I hope I'm wrong. But I've been watching political extremists on both sides since the rise of the Tea Party, and I've never seen so many people so riled up and actively calling for violence against the opposition. We're not talking about your usual nut cases who are exceptions to the rule; we're talking about otherwise law-abiding, rational people who have become so blinded by the political rhetoric that they have lost their ability for rational thought.

I am honestly very afraid for this country right now. Raffette and I are actually working on a contingency plan to permanently leave the United States if it gets too bad. That's how concerned we are about this.

We've got a couple of years, and maybe something huge will happen that causes people to reunite as Americans, allowing everyone to step back from the edge. But I'm not optimistic.

IMO

The pendulum always swings extreme.

We can already see the disgust with where our country is heading, and the immediate mess made of things as soon as the libs took the WH.

Likely the next election will give a conservative POTUS, and no, I do not think it will be Trump. The libs, petulant children they are, will throw a fit 10X the fit thrown when Trump was elected in 2016.

Conservatives, and sane Democrats, will have had enough of the tantrums, cities burning, violence and entropy from the left, and will move to put it down, as out public officials do not have the spine to do what needs be done.

After the dust and embers settle, we will Balkinize.

I think you're on the right track, Riff. You might be over optimistic on timing, but I'm always too early with mine.

One thing to consider about leaving. Americans are NOT well liked out in the big world. That was true even 30 years ago, when we were lived in Europe.

Strangers will become an even bigger target as things unravel. It will be hard to hide.

As bad as we see it here now, it's not going to be any better anywhere else. Just my opinion, but it's what I see. Language will be a problem as well. Even if you're fluent, the accent never truly goes away. After over 20 years in Texas, I was still outed as being a Yankee.

Just some unsolicited advise, take it or don't. It won't hurt my feelings! LOL Just make sure you aren't jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.

You stated it far more eloquently than I did.

As for leaving the country, consider The National Republic of Texas, for your short list.

Re: Coffee Crowd for Civilized Discourse on World Events
i can see that happening. many times we have had sparks that could set off a huge fire. media helps egg it on with blacks and anti-cop rhetoric. the US is broken. it is not even close to what we have been taught our forefathers wanted.

i don't see it as a simple CW though. think it spills into revolts of all sorts of x vs y. including black vs mex vs white, rich vs poor, rural vs city, etc. IMO , to fix the mess we need to return to community based governance. i expect once it starts to turn into a decade of fighting and the US won't b mapped as 50 states after.

that is 1 timeline to itself. add covid and the other timelines, i think virus is ahead by far. i think govern. knows it and is trying to cover up and delay things to buy time. but again, viruses are ahead and speeding up that timeline faster than think tanks can process data.

govern. knows what we do and will work to avoid things going hot. once they can not and it is inevitable, then govern will work to control the chaos. same i see with the electrical grid. it stays on, until the very end. much of society may break before power goes off.

we know ML is not possible on a national level in the US. however, it could work on a small scale. sheep can b prodded to herd them toward the govern's goal. as the elites realize the end draws near, i expect they'll work to protect resources. i think supplies and military has been moved and stocked already. not sure of the order the dominos fall in.

for example- take CA. they have water shortages. they'd work to ensure the water flows to the rich and to the food farms. more southern CA. NY state couold use Niagara Falls to produce power and it would flow along the beltway of the metros to NYC. cutting off rural NY state along the PA border. this works to prioritize where repair parts are used as well.

on a national level, 1 of the resources would b some workers. the formula shortage gives a clue. cause starvation and ppl will demand a solution. that could mean forcing some ppl to work. this has been done before with union strikes. makes sence it wpuld b done to keep power on and food moving. might b a short term fix, but a step the govern could take to buy more time.

I'm here, too! Just found out the house we want dropped another $10,000 tonight. We can finally afford it! Now, we need to bid 1st thing in the morning.

Guys, pray or think good thoughts, PLEASE!! It's a totally rebuilt house and it's perfect. I really need to get settled soon. Day to day is getting tough. I'm afraid dialysis can't be put off much longer.

Oh, Jazz? DM is just taking a break from the doom. I txtd her about a month ago.
