Re: Coffee Crowd for Civilized Discourse on World Events
I've been watching some of the stream from GB for the Queen's funeral. If I had more time I'd start a thread, but I'm wondering.

Forget all the CT about the royal family. I've been seeing the enormous numbers of people from all over the world lining up to pay their respects. I remember Diana's funeral with similar crowds, if not quite as large, as well as the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret.

My thought has been, how many of us, if any, would have so many people line up for our funerals? I've played for funerals that had to set up cc tv because of the amount of people attending, but I've also been to a few when only a handful were able to attend pre-covid.

I was a bit surprised at how sad I felt when I heard the news. I don't think we will ever see another like her in our lifetime.

Biden Warns Putin "Don't Change The Face Of War" With Nuclear Or Chemical Weapons In Ukraine

In a Sunday "60 Minutes" interview to air in full Sunday night, President Joe Biden issued a warning for Russian President Vladimir Putin to not "change the face of war" by employing either tactical nuclear or chemical weapons against Ukraine.

"Don’t. Don’t. Don’t. You will change the face of war unlike anything since World War II," Biden said

I'm screaming inside my head, guys. We had to jump through hoops to get the paperwork done last Friday and they were supposed to sign off yesterday afternoon. One of the sellers STILL hasn't signed! Supposedly, they don't have email. Who doesn't have email!?! If they have a phone, they have email!

There was another showing, again supposedly, after ours on Friday. What do y'all think? Are they waiting for a better bid? Or, do they really NOT have an email?

Trying to not drive myself crazy, after keeping Mr. TB calm yesterday, but having a hard time today.

Am I being paranoid?

On our side, we bid the asking price and are paying most of the closing costs plus a structural inspection (required by state law).

Hi Riff.

I checked the website around 11pm and the house has gone contingent. I hope it's in our favor. We haven't heard anything and it was too late to call our agent to check.

I asked our agent if one of the owners was elderly and she said no. Idk, I guess it really doesn't matter. We have a couple of backup houses to look at if this one falls through. I hope it doesn't though.

I'm trying to stay up to watch the funeral. Not sure if I'll make it live. May have to catch it later on replay.

German Bakery Slapped With €330,000 Gas Bill After Contract Canceled

On out two vacay rental properties, i have the electricity price locked till end of 2023 for one at 10.2 cents per KWH, the other at 12.2 cents per KWH with free weekend, but it expires this December. Unless something miraculous happens with electricity rate, the cost for the new plans are double.

Ugh

Also just got the gas bill for our primary residence, increase of 20% -- thankful Texas is not northern tier. Also received notice that 1 October electricity rates will go up 10%.

Re: Coffee Crowd for Civilized Discourse on World Events
congrats, TB.

this energy situation is goina b messy.

how can they force companies to function? is govern's going to pay for the materials to make the electricity and then pay for the power for a TP company? they expect the ppl to pay $100 for TP? i thought the EU citizens paid for utilities via their taxes? like we pay for fire depts and libraries.

this should b worse than the freezing of evictions in 2020. as LJS pointed out much of US commercial power is contracted at a set rate. if the utility co. the utility co. will take losses to keep making the power. the excess $$ the utility needs has to come from residences.

up north, there are laws preventing shutoffs for non-payment by residences during the cold weather. not sure of the actual writing or the dates. i believe it is OCT to APRIL. again, not sure if it is just electricity or also NG. may vary by state.

to confuse things a bit more, some ppl pay the winter usage averaged out thru the year. what is used during for the whole year is divided into 12 monthly payments, instead of paying high payments during the winter and low in summer. this average is based on the previous years usage. this too would b locked in at a much lower rate than what this winter will be.

now how is the utility co. going to get enuf $$ to pay for the coal or NG to make the power? they can only raise rates for maybe 50% of customers. if we see spikes in costs like overseas, there is no way the utility co. will afford o make the power. ppl won't magically come up with the $$ during the holiday season to pay the bills.

we'll all see rolling blackouts like CA. repairs will be delayed on purpose as long as possible to save $$. if the wires are broken, u won't b using up power. what might been a few hours to fix, will b weeks. govern goina tell us all not to use lights like CA does with water? laws on the books dictate how much lighting a store has to have.

all this $$ cost gets added to goods. Walmart ain't goina eat the cost of the power. they'll add it to everything. not that ppl will b buying if they are paying the utility co. if govern's do bailouts for utility co's., then we are looking at a step below Hyer Inflation. since all nations are in the same boat it won't quite reach HI. will feel like it to the public thou.

Lol (funny, but actually sad)
They should make sure all 9,900,000 Hungarian citizens get a pair of his rose colored glasses.

Majority Of Hungarian Gas Stations To Run Dry Next Week

Gulyás added that people could thank MOL that the government can maintain the fuel price cap scheme. As a result, gasoline and diesel prices will remain at HUF 480 per litre (EUR 1.19/l) in Hungary until 31 December. Of course, the trade off is that soon there will be no gasoline and diesel.

Uganda declares outbreak of rare Ebola strain

Uganda has declared an Ebola outbreak after a young man tested positive for a rare strain of the deadly virus, officials say. Eight suspected cases, as well as six suspicious deaths, are still being investigated.

The outbreak was first noticed last week when several people fell ill in Mubende, a district in central Uganda.

“This is the first time in more than a decade that Uganda is recording the Ebola Sudan strain,” Dr. Matshidiso Moeti of the World Health Organization (WHO) said in a statement.

Just ugh .....

Went to Michaels yesterday to pick up some frame work.

I always park out away from everyone to avoid bad drivers, and what happens? A lady smacks me.

I was backing out carefully, watching the mirrors and cameras. She is in a space about 3 places away from my space, adjacent parking row. I am fully backed out, brake on, about to shift into drive, when she puts her vehicle in reverse and tears out backwards ass butting into me at full speed.

How she was unable to see my huge BMW is beyond me. COVID brain or just an irresponsible, bad driver?

Of course, she was in a beater SUV, and it was difficult to tell what damage on her vehicle was from this incident, or was pre-existing. I do have a good bit of her white paint on my black bumper.

So, off to the dealership this morning to get repair estimates.
