“Do not think I came to bring peace to the earth; I came to bring, not peace, but a sword.”—MATT. 10:34. what?
The Truth Brings, “Not Peace, But a Sword”

“Do not think I came to bring peace to the earth; I came to bring, not peace, but a sword.”—MATT. 10:34.

HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER?

What is the “sword” that Jesus said he would bring?

How can you maintain your loyalty to Jehovah if your relatives oppose true worship?

What can help you to cope if a family member leaves Jehovah?

1, 2.

2 However, God’s time to bring about complete peace has not yet come. These critical last days are filled with conflict, and countless people have contentious attitudes. (2 Tim. 3:1-4) As Christians, we must wage a spiritual war against Satan and the false teachings that he promotes. (2 Cor. 10:4, 5) But the greatest threat to our peace may come from unbelieving relatives. Some might ridicule our beliefs, accuse us of dividing the family, or threaten to disown us unless we give up our faith. How should we view family opposition? How can we successfully deal with the challenges it brings?

1, (a) What peace can we enjoy now? (b) What prevents us from finding complete peace at this time? (See opening image.)

WE ALL want peaceful lives, free from anxiety. How thankful we are that Jehovah grants us “the peace of God,” an inner calm that can protect us from disturbing thoughts and feelings! (Phil. 4:6, 7) Because of our dedication to Jehovah, we also enjoy “peace with God,” a good relationship with him.—Rom. 5:1.

Matthew 13:24-30 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”

Matthew 13:15-16 For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them. “But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear."

John 9:39-41 Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?” Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains."

Jesus did not want to separate family members from one another, but he knew that his teachings would cause divisions in some families. Therefore, those desiring to become disciples of Christ and get baptized would need to be aware of the consequences of their decision. If they faced opposition from an unbelieving mate or others in the family, it could be a challenge to remain faithful to Christ’s teachings.

HOW TO VIEW FAMILY OPPOSITION

3, 4. (a) What effect do Jesus’ teachings have? (b) When would it be especially challenging to follow Jesus?

3 Jesus knew that his teachings would divide people and that those who follow him would need courage to do so in the face of opposition. This opposition could affect peaceful relations among family members. Jesus said: “Do not think I came to bring peace to the earth; I came to bring, not peace, but a sword. For I came to cause division, with a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. Indeed, a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.”—Matt. 10:34-36.

Right that's how the ruler of the world manipulated two world wars so far.
And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels battled with the dragon, and the dragon and its angels battled 8but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them any longer in heaven. 9So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth; he was hurled down to the earth, and his angels were hurled down with him.
.....On this account be glad, you heavens and you who reside in them! Woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil has come down to you, having great anger, knowing that he has a short period of time.” Rv12:7

Thomas Paine was rather stupid about religion.

One could just as easily say that a cruel man believes in a cruel God.

A vulgar man believes in a vulgar God.

An enlightened man believes in an enlightened God.

the sword is not war. its metaphor for truth.

to be a lion means speaking up against tyranny and to have courage.

like the truckers, like the farmers, like Ben King, Tamara Lich, like the whistle blowers, and alt media, like anyone speaking out against school boards and corrupt governments.

One can also call the sword of Christ and of Michael, a sword that wakes up the sleepers, a healing truth sword, but also a wake up sword.

We're supposed to be the lions of judah, and the sword of Christ and Michael, to wake up others.

Two neighbors having an ongoing, heated dispute (violent or not) are "at war". There is no elimination of war due to free will doctrine and others. This is not commonly understood and so remains a valid point to specifically mention even to this day.

You like comic books don't you, OP. Imagine a secret agent coming out of retirement for one last mission to save his old hometown that shunned him by delivering a "secret weapon" then being killed, kind of, by the very people it saves with all none the wiser except a select few. And just to make it interesting the select few were the ones that originally shunned him. Then maybe they go out and also get killed the same way for doing the same then the closing is a familiar scene around a now loaded feast-covered table with everyone and the guy says "Do this in remembrance... of us" then the credits roll and blink 182 plays. I'd watch that.

4 In saying “Do not think I came to bring peace,” Jesus meant that some of his listeners needed to think about the consequences of following him. His message could divide people. Of course, Jesus’ motive was to proclaim God’s message of truth, not to damage relationships. (John 18:37) Still, holding faithfully to Christ’s teachings would be challenging if one’s close friends or family members rejected the truth.

5. What have Jesus’ followers experienced?

5 Jesus included the pain of family opposition as part of the suffering that his followers must be willing to endure. (Matt. 10:38) In order to prove worthy of the Christ, his disciples have had to endure ridicule or even alienation from their families. Yet, they have gained far more than they have lost.—Read Mark 10:29, 30.

"According to Melanesian and Polynesian mythology, mana is the spiritual life force energy or healing power that permeates the universe.[1] Anyone or anything can have mana. The Bible encourages Christians to “be peaceable with all men.” (Rom. 12:18) But Jesus’ teachings can act as “a sword” in some families. This happens when a member of a family accepts Jesus’ teachings while others reject or oppose them. In such a case, the relatives—those within the household—become “enemies” of the one who is learning the truth.—Matt. 10:36.

6. (a) What did the horns of the beast mean? (b) In what way had they “not yet received a kingdom”?

6 Remember, too, that the beast had ten horns. About these, the angel said: “The ten horns that you saw mean ten kings, who have not yet received a kingdom, but they do receive authority as kings one hour with the wild beast.” (Revelation 17:12) In the Bible, the number ten represents completeness as to things on earth. Therefore, these horns symbolize all the governmental powers earth wide that support the wild beast for a short time (“one hour”) during “the Lord’s day.” They include the seventh world power, as well as the modern governments that have descended from the other six ‘heads of the beast,’ though these six are no longer world powers. These “kings” did not exist in John’s day.* Now that they have gained authority, they “give their power and authority to the wild beast.”—Revelation 17:13.

7. How should those with an unbelieving mate view their situation?

7 The Bible warns that those who marry “will have tribulation in their flesh.” (1 Cor. 7:28) If you have an unbelieving mate, you may experience more than the usual stress and anxiety in your marriage. Nevertheless, it is important for you to view your situation as Jehovah does. Your mate’s present unwillingness to follow Christ is not in itself a valid reason for separation or divorce. (1 Cor. 7:12-16) Although an unbelieving husband may not take the lead in spiritual matters, he should be respected because of his position as the head of the family. Likewise, an unbelieving wife should be shown self-sacrificing love and tender affection by her Christian husband.—Eph. 5:22, 23, 28, 29.
