Anybody Here a Cordless Tool Fanatic (Like Me)?
I STILL have my original 14.4 Milwaukee cordless drill / driver (NiCad) which was the cat's meow for it's day.

Enter current times, and I've "tried" them ALL.

I finally settled on Bosch, because they had almost indestructible tools and LION (Lithium Ion) batteries up to 8 ampere hours!
Their "BEAST" an impact driver, which can use 1/4" hex drive sets OR 1/2 sockets would knock the lug nuts off any of my vehicles in SECONDS couldn't be beat (or so I thought).

Enter "FLEX", a company you may not have heard of unless you wanted the BEST angle grinders the world has EVER created (Alpha, a close second). They've been making angle grinders since the '20's and FINALLY decided to diversify, expand their operations, and enter the US market.

Let me be the first to tell you that YOU have NO idea what you're missing!

Their first iteration/s were guaranteed for life (you STILL have until 12/ 2022) to register for their lifetime warranty.

I was a bit hesitant at first, as I noticed their country of origin as....YOU GUESSED IT: China!

Why this Eastern Block of Europe with the BEST angle grinders in the WORLD would offshore their manufacturing to a country with a mercurial reputation (at BEST) would risk their 100 year record of tools par excellence, for some Chinesium SHIT.

Let me be the first to say that these tools are the BEST cordless ones I've E V E R owned.

I started out with their angle grinder (1st Gen).
Came with a 24v 5 ampere hour battery.

I could not KILL this thing! EVEN when I tried!!!

Charger was loud, as the fans ramped up to cool off the used battery, but within 20 minutes, that battery was FULLY recharged!

Now enter the NEW Era: Stacked LION batteries!!!

These things are nearly indestructible!

The new stacked generation are 200% more powerful,
300% more battery life, and 100% faster charging time!

Forget ALL your tools and dump your dough into these FLEX tools! You WON'T be sorry!

40 plus years a contractor, and by MILES, THESE are the best I've seen to date.

Oh and BTW, if you're a fan of DeWalt, DO NOT buy their new LION STACKED PIECES...

They forgot to add heat dissipation plates
between their elements; they overheat (AND there will be MAJOR recall on them soon!).

I'm personal friends with a dude that works for DeWalt / Stanley corp.

I’m not a big powertool kinda guy, but I do get into the garden a bit and I’m a big fan of the Ryobi 36V stuff. Got the mower, straight line trimmer plus some attachments added to that, it’s good stuff.
The tools themselves are a fair bit of plastic, but it seems pretty tough I haven’t broken anything in 3 years, and it makes them so much lighter to lift and work with. The cultivator attachment is awesome, great for digging up garden beds fast with very little effort.

GREAT homeowner's tools, but for contractors it's "No-go". They fail too quickly.

Makita was the best 10 years ago or so.. now it's made cheap

Ryobi never maid it to the market of pro tools or perfected their tools

Milwaukee..bosch way too overpriced

Ridgid now a days are the best tools you can buy for money/rigidity for pro's or not

If you want a nice small one then the Makita makes a 12v barrel grip jigsaw. Just be sure to invest in a larger battery. The batteries that come in the kit are just 2 amp hours.

Re: Anybody Here a Cordless Tool Fanatic (Like Me)?
Festool is probably the best quality out there but they are pricey. I have a cordless angle grinder that is easily the best I've ever used & the drywall screw driver, which is so smooth.

Hilti make some very rugged tools but they are mostly enterprise rentals but you can still buy them. Still have an impact i picked up used about 10 years ago and it still works very well & it has been seriously abused lol.

IMO Milwaukee is still the king because of their price, durability and variety of trade specialty tools that most other brands lack. Their 12v lineup is excellent for light jobs and DIYers. I use my 12v driver more than any 18 because it is so much lighter and a 6AH battery can run it all day. The 12v rotary works with any Dremel accessory and is a beast.

Makita is still a solid brand but not quite as good as when they were made exclusively in Japan.

Dewilt I mean Dewalt is junk I'd buy a Rigid or Ryobi over them any day.

Re: Anybody Here a Cordless Tool Fanatic (Like Me)?
I only need the occasional homeowner type tools. The Ryobi 18V works perfect for all of my homeowner applications. But I totally understand how pros would need to have pro equipment.

I also have the Ryobi 40V Expand-it string trimmer which works way better than my Stihl gas string trimmer, and less hassle. What I love about the Expand-it are the additional attachments that I have purchased, including the 10" pole saw, which works great on all of the smaller branches on my trees, and the really thick woody underbrush. I also bought the edger attachment, and after the initial pain of the first edging after 4 years, every month I run that along my driveway and walk, and it takes very little time, and it looks great.

Re: Anybody Here a Cordless Tool Fanatic (Like Me)?
I made a small fortune with DeWalt 18 volt tools.

The Nicads are much better than the 20 volt lithium stuff.

I used them for 25 years, installing fiber and copper in new construction.

The 18 volt hammer drill is unbelievable.

I core drilled a 4 inch hole through a brick wall with it, once. It took 3 batteries. Drill was hot as fire when I finished. Still have it, still a workhorse.

The only tool I don't like in the 18 volt line, by DeWalt, is the angle grinder. Requires too much juice. Batteries can't supply it.

I see where the 18 volt tools are discontinued now. Batteries are expensive.

I'm retired, now. My 18 volt tools will last me till I die. I still use them, every day, around the house.

You can't be serious... Makita is up there with the best.

Like no joke, amazing tools.

Even 40 years ago... the best miter saw I own is my grandfather's makita with a cast iron base, cuts truer than all of the modern ones by far and I've owned a few.\

The impact gun I have is just as capable as my Dewalts and they've both been through hell and back.

I forgot to mention Flex is owned by Chinese company Chevron but was originally German. The tools that are black & red are still made in the German factory. The tools sold at Lowes are from the Chinese factory in Nanjing. They also make Skil-Saw and the EGO lineups.

Also I'm not knocking them for being Chinese owned, quite a few major tool brands are Chinese owned these days including Milwaukee.

I've tried them all and I've come to like Ryobi the most. They have an impressive assortment of tools that are compatible with packs I've had for years.

I dont think I've ever had an issue with one of thier tools. We used go through grinders like crazy when I worked on a 400 unit apartment complex for a couple years. You know what burnt up the most? Dewalt. I seen a guy bring a brand new multi set on the job site and the drill shit on the first day.

They are all mostly made in China just pick the flavor.

If you're an electrical hobbyist: the triggers to cordless power tools have nice little pulse width modulators. The motors are powerful and the battery packs can be taken apart and used to build a large lithium power bank if you collect enough of them.

Take this knowledge with you into the apocalypse, friends
