Actually, she went to prison because she lied about it and tried to cover it up. If she had owned up, she would have paid a relatively minor fine.

The back story:

Martha had, since she first started out, kept her earnings in smaller local regional banks. When she became very popular, and concomitantly very wealthy, she was “strongly encouraged” to place her money in financial institutions run by the “usual suspects”. She ignored this advice, and lo and behold! Look what happened to her.

Word is she now keeps her money where it will earn big for “them”.

See, Con-gres gave THEMSELVES and their staffers and immediate family members dispensation from SEC rules concerning prosecution for insider trading that would end anyone else reading this in prison for the same.
