Nasa images show extreme withering of Lake Mead over 22 years
The pictures from 2000, 2021 and 2022 offer a new view into its dramatically low water levels, now at just 27% capacity

Stark images of the “bathtub ring” around Lake Mead have come to symbolize the devastating effects of drought at America’s largest reservoir. Now, newly released satellite pictures from Nasa offer a new view of how dramatically water levels have declined over the past 22 years.

The images, which cover the years 2000, 2021 and 2022, show once-full tributaries transformed into dry crevasses. The lake, which supplies water to roughly 25 million people across the American west, is currently at its lowest levels since it was filled in 1937. As of 18 July, it stands at just 27% of its capacity.

Michael Carlowicz, managing editor of the Nasa Earth Observatory, described it as “a stark illustration of climate change and a long-term drought that may be the worst in the US west in 12 centuries” in a post on the agency’s site.

Why is it only Lake Mead?

At Lake Havasu, the water level is up.
[link to lakehavasu.water-data.com]

Lake Powell
is down only down 18.11 feet from one year ago.
[link to lakepowell.water-data.com]

Lake Mohave is up 0.65 feet from one year ago.
[link to lakemohave.water-data.com]

And all the 'Natural Lakes' in the Basin are full.

So, Why is it only Lake Mead?

Crevices full of water don't exist.

This thread does not exist.
I'd say nuke it from space, but there are no nukes and there is no space.

Yes. I used to own a real straight jacket with the crotch strap removed.

Interesting fact; it is illegal to own a straight jacket with the crotch strap fully intact and functioning.

When you see escape artists escape from a straight jacket, they always have the crotch strap removed entirely or it is only partially functioning.

It is nigh on impossible to escape from a fully function straight jacket, though Houdini claimed that he could.

It's not water you'll have to worry about, It's food.
They are going to pay farmers not to plant to 'save Lake Mead'.

Phoenix draws water from Lake Havasu, which is doing fine. 95%

The water at Roosevelt Lake is up and down.
They say they're trying to 'drown' the vegetation around the lake.

Apache, Canyon and Saguaro Lakes are all 93-95% full.

It has nothing to do with weather or drought. It is 100% human caused.
More power generation for Alcoa=more water used(the largest user of the power station to refine aluminum),and up stream diversion and holding of water behind other dams.

Simply the problem is and has being caused by users of the river and government management(for often personal financial gain. [link to www.opensecrets.org (secure)] most of their money is spent at the local level).

Slow power production down by 10%(back to levels it was 8 years ago through most of history) and free the water HELD upstream, and the lake would recover in probably less than 2 weeks....but that would not serve democrats climate alarmist.

Oh,you mean they diverted the rivers feeding it and bad things happened to it(to feed a different hydro power facility lol)?

We have some real idiots in government, and even worse are those who believe this has ANYTHING to do with climate. Not to mention the 3rd feed pipe added for water to Las Vegas...sigh.
