Germany wants people to work even more hours and retire later because "not enough qualified personel"
Germany is really something else..

While our neighbors in the southern EU states have significantly more house owners and retire by age 57, and everywhere is a 4 day workweek planned due to lack of qualified people, Germany is heading a different path.
Mind you, we play the major part of EU funds, supporting the southern EU states for years, keep their banks from collapsing and supporting their people retire in their mid 50ies as well.

Now is suggested to up to weekly work hours from 38 (many people work much more like that anyway) to 42 hours and retirement age from 67 to 70.

Might work for office folks, but what about carpenters and everyone else working a job that requires a healthy strong body?

The ones that came 1991 and following years were refugees from Yugoslavia, all perfectly integrated hard working people.

The ones coming 2015 on the other hand.. I personally met some young Syrians who actually did a apprenticeship or study and do work hard and unsupported. So I do think most of them are here to contribute and not to leech.
Not so much with the people that came from more southern, african countries..

Anyway. I don't blame the people coming here for the free handouts.
if I lived in a shithole without any perspective on bettering my lifestyle on my own because lack of education corruption and other resources, I would go where free handouts are, too.

But the government for the last 40 years is to blame - for not putting the ones actually making free handouts possible first, so we are all happy still working our asses off and freely giving away what we accomplished.

It's funny if you have companies complaining lack of qualified personnel on the one hand and people desperately looking for jobs that actually earn them a living otherwise on the other hand.

And those still working now blame the native free handout unemployed people openly, don't realize every single one of them is just 12 months of bad luck (gettingnseriously ill or company closing) away from their poor lifestyle themselves, but won't speak up against giving money away to everyone else in the world.

Divide and conquer worked here perfectly.

Exactly.
I have good connections, spend quite some time every year in Hungary for business ... but they did that once to foreign farmers, i would not exclude that they do not do it again to foreigners "taking away" housing for Hungarians.

They did since the end of WW-II, basically the whole EU is only backed by the labor of germans and will fall when they decide that enough is enough.

On the other hand... we will see how the US will work out when they have to work because the age of the Petrodollar (free shit for money printing) is going to end.

I just bet that you put in the 40-50 hour workweek that most Americans do. Not.

One huge reason that you Europeans can have such luxurious hours and retirement age is because you never had to pay more than a token for your military security. You did not pay your NATO bills, you did not pay your share of the military costs, and you did not mind the huge amount of American dollars that flowed to you every year.

Piss off on that. You complain about other European countries freeloading off of Germany, but Germany and the EU have been freeloading off of us for 70 years. No wonder we have to work so many hours. It is so the EU workers can have extended vacation days.

Short note:
From first hand experience I can tell you that US-working hours are an useless metric ... Germans would do the same job in 2/3 the time and leave early.

That is how very expensive german workers can still compete with the cheap rest of the world: they do the same work in 2/3 of the time, at least.

And we all know who is putting oily rags into the fire for another little war abroad in Europe to save the failing economy at home yet another time.

Its true. I'm in the metal fab business and retirees are leaving at such a fast rate that we can't replenish them with enough apprentices. I believe the last number I heard was over 60% of our local was within 5 years of retirement at the age of 62.

Its sad but many young kids just don't want to get their hands dirty, can't get to work on time, or simply can't pass a piss test. Its too bad because not many professions afford you the opportunity of getting paid to learn your trade and provide a solid $100k a year after a short 4 year apprenticeship.

Well.. not going to happen.
Most well doing (according to US-poster above even though we are not working long enough hours..) people are considering bailing.

Former eastern-block countries (aka "Viszegrad states"), Asia or somewhere else.

They told us those refugees all were doctors, scientists, engineers.

They are our gold-pieces "Goldstücke" and better educated and willing to work harder than the locals.

Well, it seems politicians lied and the gullible idiots from the left fell for it.

Also for the cost of energy and transportation right now even the most avg. waggie could spend the winter somewhere in Asia without working for 6 months and still be better off.
