Give a lecture of the legal consequences of being caught underage with Cannabis and your State law's and penalty's on the matter.

If your job doesn't drug test, when the teen is away smoke it all and enjoy.

Make sure the teen knows any cannabis that is found in the house will be seized and "destroyed".

What do you mean by "busted with pot"?

Were they arrested for it? Did a school teacher find it? Did you or your partner find it?

All need different levels of response.

If it's you, then play it cool. Don't punish them, but remind them that it's a bad idea, and ask that they don't bother with it until they are an adult, and even then, make certain they move to a place where it's legal.

If it's the police, then get the best lawyer you can find.

Over reaction is a poor plan. It's a drug, but not a serious one. Unless you live in a place where it can lead to years in prison, still, of course.

These things need to be talked about, and followed up on, but once a week or so, not with any kind of major blow up.

This is the moment where you either raise a good kid, or turn out an angry monster. For the sake of the rest of us, avoid that last one?

Of course the unemployed losers here are pro weed. Smoking that young will absolutely have an effect on mental health, look at this board for example, everyone jobless and paranoid with delusions. Depersonalization, Derealization and just two things that weed can trigger in people who smoke and have a panic attack. Both can last month's or years.

tell the teen that with cannabis comes responsibility, then teach your kid to grow and care for the cannabis-plant him/herself. while you're at it, tell your kid that not everything what he/she perceives under the influence of cannabis is correct, the same way as not everything is correct what he/she perceives while NOT under the influence of cannabis.. then maybe you can go a step further and tell him/her about the core, but as the experienced father/mother you are, I think you will let himself/herself discover it.

Drive the kid to see all the homeless people in some bad area, and tell the kid, they probably smoke that garbage too.

Show the kid, the junkies on streets shooting up, with needles lying next to them just in public spaces, and ask the kid do you want to end up like that, as your gov does not care if you do, and the drug pushers do not care if you do.

That stuff is called dope for 2 reasons, and one is you have to be a dope to smoke it.

Plead Guilty/Accept Responsibility/Say Sorry ASAP and don’t feed the System by fighting it. Teach your child moderation and teach him/her how to not get caught. As a juvenile, this should go away eventually. Do not enable or encourage excessive use. Teach Moderation!

My step sister was caught with pot in her locker in high school. Of course, she was "holding it for a friend". She was expelled, and had to spend her final 2+ years at the "alternative" high school, where she graduated on time.

She did not serve any jail time. My step mom, her mom, pretty much blew it off.

If the perp has never been arrested and under the age of 18 " depending on your state "
You can file for " YO" youthful offender . And all charges will be scrubbed from his or her record for future job and or options .

If the perp is over the age of 18 and or has been arrested for any non felony charges he or she can file for accelerated rehabilitation. The charges will also be Scrubbed.

MAKE sure you do the proper paper work and trust no one .Look feel'listen.

Last most states do not treat the weed as a felony unless they are carrying and or distributing large amounts.

Basically just tell him/her that Marijuana is a Gate-Way Drug and to just say "No to Drugs".
