My house sits way above any conceivable flood level, up on the side of a mountain. Last night there was so much water it looked like a waterfall running off the surrounding mountains. My Grandpa bult his house on the side of a mountain and I remember how the usually relatively mild creek, that ran at the bottom of the side of the house, would turn into a raging white-water rapid. That creek was a tributary of the Big Richland Creek a few hundred yards away across the field. Big Rich became a temporary river. You're right: the hollers are bull's-eyes. |

For those here that don't understand, the hollows are the only place to put a flat road. In the backwoods all the tiny roads follow the creeks, and everything is fine until there is a big rain. It all runs down the hill sides and the creeks swell and flood the roads. My road floods at least a dozen times every winter and spring. |
