At the Toba Catastrophe there were only 1000 people left on earth. Probably more like 10,000 but still, mass population reduction do to tidal waves all over the earth. Biblical flooding at 20,000 BC.

So the loss of 6-7 billion would be just fine. The planet would reset, water would be clean again, pollution would cease, Mother Nature would be happy.
