The IRS sent me a bill that I will admit that I didn't really understand. It made me pay about 40% of my income in taxes that year. and I didn't even make 80k.
I just paid it though.

Honestly, quit great mongering. The only time they usually do this is when people purposely deposit like 9950 or right under ten grand to avoid detection, if the money came from legit sources but hard to prove

If you got a 1099 for work you did then you can fill out a business tax return and claim expenses, you would never have to pay what they say because they automatically figure the bill with no expenses because they don’t know what your expenses were. If you just go down to any tax office someone can help you with this. You’re allowed three years time to go back and change it, after that you’re stuck with it.

You’re more likely on the radar because you just paid it instead of trying to claim expenses like a normal person would.

This has been the law for years. It is supposedly to stop money laundering under the guise of preventing terrorism.
You can’t transfer more than $10K without the bank reporting it, and an attempt to avoid the 10K reporting requirement (such as multiple deposits of 9000+) is illegal.
It’s bullshit (billionaires drop more than 10K hourly) but it is NOT NEW.
Happened to me by accident a few years ago. Happened to someone I know.

I get direct deposits in bank of America.
4yrs now I transfer that money by Zelle into members 1st.

2wks ago I getta call from m1st. Askn me if I hadda biz re deposits. I said u had my biz account. Biz sold acct closed. This is my personal account. Legit transfers 4 yrs now. They flat out told me my accts were under audit.
I stopped down there n showed them my bank of America statements. Retirement acct deposits. FOH with that audit shit. Goddammed narcs. Said ghead I'm former irs. They had the balls to ask me why I don't have the deposits with them. Because I DONT HAVE TO bitch. Holy fuck.
