Re: I FEEL SHAME: I am 62 and had to borrow $500 from son to survive this month
That's what family is for. We take care of each other. My mom lived with us for seven years until she passed away. She took care of me and it was my turn to take care of her.

My husband gets upset with his 90 year old father all the time because he will have someone come and do whatever work he needs done. He won't ask my husband to do it for him because my husband won't take any money for it. He came right out and said he won't ask my husband for help because my husband won't let him pay him for it. It makes my husband feel bad because he wants to help him.

I will pay him back, but I feel so bad about having to ask him
for help.

I financed his University of Austin for 4 years. Cost me a fortune, still reeling from costs.

All worth it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50463033

So why doesn't he pay you back, or at least part of it? You're not helping him any in learning responsibility by footing the bill on something so expensive.

My parents never would have footed the bill for anything that big, LOL, but at least I learned the value of a dollar.

A lot of people are experiencing or will be experiencing hardship. Here in the UK gas and electricity are being hiked to double what they were a year ago - petrol has gone up by an extra 70 pence a litre this year - it makes me think this will cause decreased spending as households are forced to pay everything to the power gas/electricity /oil companies forcing recession/ depression - and many businesses will go out of business - many products will no longer be available as necessities become paramount.

The money will be in the hands of the power giants to fill these gaps in the market - and we will all be at their mercy as they monopolise.

The more you think it through - the worse it gets.
 Quoting: HairyBarbarian

I can't say how accurate the following is, but it is another form/ method of monopolisation by the giants:

"...Ambani led group has entered into the distribution business of Pharmaceutical and consumer goods including Staples and FMCG products. This move of theirs will ring a death bell to a majority of business houses who are into distribution business. Here they have applied the same strategy which they used while launching Jio mobile service. First they provide the goods at catchy discounts to retailer's by passing on the huge discount that they gain by direct negotiations with FMCG manufacturers as well as direct procurement of staples from the farmer's. Over the course the current distribution network will collapse and Reliance group will monopolize the segment after which they are going to dictate the price for what every Indian spread on his dining table."

The connection here is between staples/ commodities and distribution.

Soon food distribution centers. Line up, show your Vaxx ID.

All fake food, cricket-based.

The key problem I have with the power supply giants is the connection to power source (and derivative "industry").
 Quoting: HairyBarbarian

Up until April 2023, they can't take energy debt from benefits - (which means if you owe - it is automatically taken from your benefits) - so, I think at the moment they are capped from increasing energy supply amounts to people on benefits but only up until then - I am not sure exactly.

I just think it stinks how we are trapped in a system where they can hike living expenses for basics - then extract the extortion without us being able to do anything or have a say. It's like a horrible trap - and who knows the way out?

Over here they can automatically take from wages too - even if it is unfair or contested - and contest in the courts can be very unfair too. It's a horrible trap - everywhere.

Oh, he'll know. He may be 90 years old, but you can't get anything past him. He still drives, does his shopping, pays his bills, etc. He would make sure he bought any parts before my husband fixed anything. And since he knows my husband won't take any money, he doesn't tell him he needed something done until he's already paid someone to do it. This frustrates my husband to no end.

We're all cash cows, yet we're treated worse than actual cows. We're utterly trapped in their pen.

Those of us who are more sensitive suffer from 'depression' and anxiety. No wonder, we're all being crushed in their mill.
'Depression' just their word for being crushed by their dysfunctional, uncaring rule.

You don't LEND money to parents, you GIVE it to them. Hopefully you brought up your kids to know that and won't want it back.

WHY WOULD YOU FEEL SHAME? THE REASON FAMILY EXISTS IS FOR MUTUAL SUPPORT.

THIS IS WHY WE'RE IN SUCH A FUCKED UP POSITION, EVERYONE IS SO FAR OUT OF WHACK FROM THE NORM THAT YOU DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW RELATIONSHIPS WORK.

BEFORE THERE WAS INSURANCE THERE WAS FAMILY.

It cost's an average of two hundred and fifty thousand to raise a child to the age of 18. Most people just don't know that. I've always tried to help family, they are the closest link to your past and will never fail you when you ask in return. Cheers

I gave up over two million in income and spent hundreds of thousands when I sold my business in order to travel with my mother and help take care of her for over 10 years. I was stupid to do it but she did enjoy her last years far more than if I wouldn’t have been there.

Children all over the world frequently make sacrifices for their parents. In most of the world, the elderly cannot survive without contributions from their children, which is often why they have them in the first place.
