OP, not trying to bust your balls.
But next time build up a CASH emergency fund of $500-1000 and forget about it.
China laughs at us everyday because they know 90% of Americans can't come up with $500.

In this life, as the Bible says, we will have trials and tribulations, no matter how hard we try or how much we prepare. The OP did the best she could. She financed her son's education. That is beautiful. I am so glad that he could help her. That's called family.
