Cooking question
I saw a recipe for canning chicken and I'd like to try to do this.

It said to use a "Pressure Canner."

My question is: Is a Pressure Canner different from a Pressure COOKER?

I couldn't get the thread to post. Had to start with innocuous words and then go edit.

Thanks for your concern for my small world.

Re: Cooking question
Thank you for the info!

I have an electric pressure cooker and was hoping I could use it for canning.

I would probably be afraid to try it, as I don't use it often and would probably worry about blowing up my kitchen!

I was always afraid of thing, hhahahaaa.

I wonder why it specifies pressure canning over regular canning though. Interesting question.

Re: Cooking question
because people were real nasty in the olden days and pressuring killed off all the cow and chicken shit dust in the house.
regular canning will do if stored in the fridge.how long it stores is your gamble.

Re: Cooking question
"The National Center for Home Food Preservation advises against using a pressure cooker for canning. There are just too many different makes, models and brands and most are not as accurate as the manufacturer may claim. So the bottom line is that a pressure cooker is just built for cooking – not canning."

Re: Cooking question
You can use a pressure canner to cook but you can't use a pressure cooker to can.......a pressure cooker is too small to fill with jars and may not reach the pressures needed for safe canning....both will cook food fast and safely tho...

The hot water bath canning is not safe for low acid foods like meat or veg.....water bath canning can be done in any large pot.....a pressure canner does it under pressure/temp to kill off botulism spores.....the pressure is dependent on altitude where you live....
