Most Americans have difficulty understanding what a bitter sectarian civil war such as Northern Ireland or Ukraine is like.
Everyone involved is forced to be on one side or the other. Peace can only be achieved when the psychopaths who keep the shit-show alive, are neutered.
Most people actually just want to get on with their lives, living in peace, even with disliked neighbours. This was how the twister Zelenskyy originally got elected. Corruption and thuggery soon changed everything.
The Irish situation took hundred plus years to settle. It is still a tinder box, that will kick off in a wink, should the economy start going bad.
