Quoting: Pacific Plate [link to magicgermcollective.bandcamp.com (secure)] Holy fuck that’s a lot of music on that page. So I’m currently listening to the first track on Jab to the Eye of a Watermelon. Very unique. What are you playing? And do you have anything specific I should check out or…if not I’ll just sift. But from what I’m hearing now it’s very good. Very different but very good. Can I ask who your influences are? Like what type of stuff do you personally listen to? I want the truth. We all deserve it. |

I don't put much effort into it, probably shows but don't care. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78240172 I totally see what you were going for. The timing is very hard to follow. The chord progression is cool, the leads are cool but like I said, the timing seems wayward. Did you play the guitar and drums? It’s not bad. It’s just…off a little. Tell me more about it and the writing/recording process if you would. Very interested to see how it was created. I want the truth. We all deserve it. |

Nothing specific, tho the more recent stuff I think has been getting better as I gain more arrangement experience. Been playing bass and drums for years (maybe 40 years on the bass and 25+ on the drums). I'm not as good as you might expect for all that time, but I've got a good ear. I'm not playing anything on these tracks, tho I certainly could. I'm more interested in producing tracks from 1000's of samples in my collection. It's a process that works for me. |

User ID: 75783144 Sweden 08/08/2022 02:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This isn't my thread, but I can still give a second opinion right? I recorded this and played all the instruments. Theres a guitar solo towards the end. hope someone gives some feedback to a long time glper. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82226705 Both your songs work for me. By that I mean, they have exactly the kind of cool slow funk groove and sparse sound with room left for more that makes me want to sing! Very laidback and nice, and your guitar solos are very musical. Technically good too, but there's a zillion speed demons on guitar out there and I just don't give shit about any of them. But you play notes that mean something musically. That's what makes it music and not noise! The ONLY complaint I have, is that you rely a little too much on copy pasting the same phrases over and over in the backing track. This is a great way to quickly sketch out an arrangement, but I would encourage you to then replace them with played parts. You can clearly play, so it shouldn't be a problem.! It's not illegal to copy phrases, and sometimes it even makes a catchy hook or lick stand out better, but most of the time a song gets more life if you avoid it. I think your stuff would benefit, is all I'm saying. I know my bass playing is mediocre at best, but even when I'm tasked with playing the exact same bass lick over and over with no variations, I still don't copy paste, because even unintended micro-variations help to give more life to a song. Like in this one. I'm not saying it's a shining musical example to strive towards for you, since you're clearly a better player than me, I'm just saying it would have sounded worse if I had been lazy and copy pasted the same bass phrase over and over. But apart from that, I really liked your songs! As I said, they make me want to sing. As an old singer that's me giving my highest praise. It means you hit my G-spot (guys have them too, right?). I don't put much effort into it, probably shows but don't care. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78240172 I think you should care at least a little, because this is seriously cool, but also seriously let down by the fact the timing doesn't "sit" whatsoever. If your music was total shit I wouldn't care either, but hearing something that could have been awesome treated with casual disrespect like this bothers me! Music is above all a craft. 1 % inspiration, 99 % transpiration, as they say. Getting it right and making a musical idea justice takes work. No way around it. When you love someone, your only regret in the end is that you didn't love her even more. Music is the same. The only regret you'll ever have looking back on what you created in the past, is that you didn't put in even more effort and really gave it your all. Care, bro! Your music deserves it. You deserve it. Disrespecting your music is disrespecting yourself. Lazy Monk |

Most of all, the compression MURDERS this song. It pumps the whole thing to shyte. Nothing is punching through the wall of compression, so everything sounds anemic, when it's supposed to sound hard hitting. Frequencies aren't right either. Everything sounds unbalanced. Vocals are too muffled and the lyrics can't be heard. Kind of a pity, when you actually have a message! A skilled mixer could take your stems and make it rock. You should try sending them to someone who knows what he's doing, you'd be surprised how good it can sound. Lazy Monk |

I appreciate original music of no-name artists. I appreciate it so much more than anything that “makes it.” SO, if you have any originals that YOU wrote. Post it here. I’ll listen and give my honest feedback. I’ve taken today off from life so throw it at me GLP! Quoting: ConcernedHuman OK, just in case you haven't already seen anything I've posted at GLP, I guess I could repost some of me and my wife's stuff. She has a YouTube channel where we post her songs. I help out with mixing and playing bass (and occasionally drums/clarinet/recorder). Most of her songs are in English, but here's one in Swedish: I like it! |
