Indonesia warns that Dutch Qur'an film could disturb interfaith harmony
Amazing!
9/11, that couldn't disturb interfaith harmony. Bali bombings? Nope. 7/7 in London? Naah. Over 10,000 jihad terror attacks since 9/11? No problem. But a film about the contents of the Qur'an -- now that will disturb interfaith harmony.

JAKARTA, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia on Friday warned Dutch lawmaker not to release an anti-Islam film which could destroy interfaith harmony, the country foreign ministry said here.

Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders, who heads the Freedom Party, will release his short film this month, which he says will depict the Koran as a 'fascist book', despite mounting protests and a disagreement from the Dutch government.

Indonesian foreign ministry and religious leaders from all religions have opposed the release, saying it could trigger backlash from Muslims.

In 2006, protesting and rioting erupted in many Muslim countries, including the biggest Muslim country, Indonesia, after a publication of the cartoon of Prophet Mohammad with a turban resembling a bomb in a Danish newspaper. It killed more than 50 people and destroyed three Danish embassies.

"The Dutch government has failed to convince Wilders not to release the film for the risks of backlash should the film to be released," spokesman of the ministry Kristianto Legowo told a press conference at the ministry office.

The spokesman said that the film would hamper the interfaith dialogue that has been actively promoted by Indonesia and other countries.

"(The film) will be an obstacle to attempts that we and other countries have initiated. We do not want this to occur," said Legowo.

Separately, the top leaders of the five religions in the country have also strongly opposed the display of the film.

"I and four other top religious leaders from other religions have declared to refuse the release of the film," the chairman of the biggest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Hasyim Muzadi told Xinhua.

"It could destroy the harmony among the inter faiths," he added.

Indonesia, with 87 percent of its over 240 million population are Muslim, practices tolerant strain of the religion.

Re: Indonesia warns that Dutch Qur'an film could disturb interfaith harmony
Funny thing is, here in The Netherlands, politics and media are making a big fuzz. But when i speak to muslims (I live in Amsterdam, there are many here ;) ) they don't really care. They simply say: it's just a movie.

The most stupid thing is Wilders only speaks about the Qur'an, never ever the bible (Wich is nastier or at least just as nasty in my opinion) or other religions. But frankly, there are more problems because of Christianity then of Islam in this world.

Best quote by Wilders: (trans)"When you rip out all the pages [out of the Qur'an] with violence, you are left with a booklet as thick as the [comic book] Donald Duck"

maybe 5 imams.

Riots and deaths....
Protests and threats you mean, geez. Don't get confused here. The escalation with the burning down of the Danish emabssy in Damascus was of course bad. But no mass murdering or killing whatsoever. Get your facts straight. Total people killed during that 'conflict' around 25 (all rioters against police). The impact for Journalism in the Middle-East was very negative, i find that most disturbing.

And death sentences, decapitations, suicide bombings, wars, Sharia, police killings, woman rights... all going on far before the cartoons.

Extremist took over middle east by force, not by consent. Not politically, like Christians in America. "One nation under God". And look: wars, torture, death sentences, controlled media. It's basically the same thing, with consent. I don't blame a middle eastern muslim for the action of his leaders. I do blame an American for the actions of his leaders. Democracy is a bitch.

Christianity (basically USA) is a bigger problem for the world then the middle east, which is fighting with itself really.

That was my point, you try to point to the Muslims again. "You can see the speck in your friend's eye, but you don't notice the log in your own eye."

We as westerners will never understand the middle east. We don't have to. They are much to busy with them self. We don't understand such bloody protests, they don't even know how to do it differently, force gives you what you want.
In the west when we don't agree.... we talk. Consent gives you what you want.

Now, when you are thinking, consent is much better: stop for a minute and think about that, because it isn't. Better put your thinking caps on, if you still have one lying around that is. Nah, just turn on your tele, grab a beer and watch football.

Of course! Can't have the truth interfering with all that carefully crafted "religion of peace" propaganda! Also, individual muslims might see the movie, and decide to explore other options for their spiritual life - then they'll all have to be killed for apostasy. See what a ruckus we infidels are causing?
