My Mom’s friend fell at her house, she must have been down about 3-5 days before her kids realized they hadn’t heard from her, police did a wellness check, they thought she was dead because of the smell and the condition of her body. As they loaded her on to the stretcher, she raised her arm, three days on a vent before doctors told the kids she was brain dead. This situation is quite a bit different, though. The medical staff told both her loved ones and law enforcement that her injuries were not life-threatening, even after she had been hospitalized for a period of time. I worked in the emergency room of a hospital, years ago, and no one - especially the doctors - would ever tell one's loved ones or law enforcement officers that, unless they were 100% certain that the patient would survive, because it could open the door to lawsuits, investigations, and pain and suffering on the part of the family. Honestly, there's so much wrong with every facet of this incident that I don't even know where to begin... |

It was mentioned in every single news report and article about her injuries that I read within the first 24 hours or so of the accident. Many of those reports have since been changed/updated (and I hadn't thought it would be necessary to archive them, at the time), but if you do an Internet search for the specific terms "Anne Heche non life-threatening", you can still find some of the original articles where her reps clearly stated that her condition was stable, she did not sustain life-threatening injuries, and she was expected by everyone to survive. Her ex, actor Thomas Jane, told reporters the same thing, as well. And, law enforcement officers had told sources that they were proceeding with the investigation under the impression that she would definitely survive, too. In fact, the potential charge(s) were upgraded to felonies, only 2 days ago. |
