I’m definitely not a fan of more regulations, but who’s idea was it anyway to make the top of these umbrellas pointy?? Common sense would tell anyone who gave a rat’s ass about people that something that can go flying because of the wind (I mean, come on, it’s the beach, a notoriously windy location!) should have some kind of mushroom-shaped cap on the top so as not to injure anyone. Even the bottom doesn’t need a point; it going into SAND, for crying out loud. Dig a hole for it with a little spade, put it in and backfill - done, and nobody gets hurt if it gets loose.

People really don’t care about each other. That’s why there are so many regulations now, as thoughtlessness and stupidity rules the day. At one time, you used to be able to have a nice fire on the beach, but so many people left hot coals just under the sand for others to burn their feet on that it had to stop. Same with glass bottles, people would break them and not clean the pieces up. Every time people act without thinking, they invite big government to step in and do their thinking for them. Irresponsible behavior, born out of lack of love and concern for others, has led to most of the restrictions we labor under today.

I see it happen every weekend, noobs coming to the beach for the first time with their new umbrella, with no anchor, stick the pole in the sand , open it and walk away, first puff of air they go flying, seen a lot of near misses
