We have the clerical court proceedings against Joan of Ark. One of the main charges against her, that got her Burned at the stake!, were that she dressed like a man. Joan of Arc could not be a soldier in a dress. She quickly dressed masculine because it was a necessary part of her goal. She was brave enough to fight social conventions in order to honor her calling.

There were other reasons for the way she dressed, they are conflating her situation into something it was definitely not.

She felt she had a mission from God. That mission was in military. Women's clothing would not work. These things do not make her non-binary. They make her willing to do what it takes to accomplish a mission. Also, women's big dresses would be difficult to deal with even in the best of circumstances. She put her mission above gender norms. That does not make her non-binary except in our world that does not seem to know the difference between men and women.
