If we had to grow/produce a good portion of our own food, we would definitely not have near the amount of waste that we currently do. Not to mention the transportation costs associated with getting said food to market. Then there's the footprint of the market itself. The food industry really does have a tremendous amount of waste built into it. It would be ridiculous to believe markets and larger scale farmers shouldn't,couldn't, or wouldn't exist...it just wouldn't need to be to the unnaturally industrialized scale it is today. |
