Current Alternative Music
As someone who did most of my growing up in the 90’s, much of the music made through the whole decade is the most meaningful to me. Lots of memories tied to a lot of the music, but I believe there was an explosion of music creativity during the decade. I know that every generation says this about their music, but obviously the 90s means the most to me.

Two of my favorite albums from the decade are Transistor from 311 and Make Yourself from Incubus. I can go back to either album at any time and get absorbed completely in the music.

All that being said, I haven’t followed alternative music for about 15 years. Does anyone have any suggestions of any current alternative that has the same effect?

Re: Current Alternative Music
I don't think music is as important to the "yoots", especially white yoots, today as it was in the 90s and 00s. Music has been relegated to background noise now.

I'd argue videos games are the modern equivalent.

Re: Current Alternative Music
Thanks for the suggestions. This gives me a good place to start. And I think the comment about music not being as important to todays youth hits the nail on the head. It seems like more and more music is of the “manufactured” type. Doesn’t seem to be too much of real artistry. Or maybe it’s just harder to find now. There’s so much to sift through that I’m missing the majority of the good stuff.

I know what you mean, but your last statement is the truth. There's still plenty of amazing talent out there, even in rock and alt rock. You just first need to sift through all the mainstream shit to find it.

It messes with my head that no bands like NIN or Tool ever pop up any more.

Re: Current Alternative Music
The radio stations are owned by the people pushing the narrative. They took our usual radio personalities away (too conservative and they couldn't mess up their image so they did some sort of show elsewhere) with no warning and put some from California on here. Then they play shit music (sometimes it's not bad but you know that it's just really background music) and push vaccination and talk shit about Republicans and gross people out with their perverted escapades and people stopped listening to them. So then they bring the other personalities back like in the snap of their fingers cuz they work for the same motherfucking people. And they don't actually let people talk or take calls from the public.....that was a lie.

Then YouTube is a biased piece of shit platform that has managed to not float away down the same river as the rest of the mainstream media and any hope for what the internet could have been. And they take away good talent if it exceeds their industry talent. And you can see it's a set up thing by the way they do the artists they choose for the top billboards and how you have to work for a label basically owned. Tom McDonald went thru hell with them.

But there is good stuff, (i don't like tom McDonald's stuff but he seems like a solid guy) it's just hard to find

Looks like King Gizzard getting called out by a couple of different people. Will definitely have to check them out.

And I’ve listened to that whole cage the elephant album. There is some still good music being made, I just don’t feel like there’s either not as much, or too much is being throw at us. By the way, the cage the elephant and Beck collaboration was good. I’m a pretty big Beck fan too.

Yes I’ve definitely noticed that a narrative is being pushed. At some point, I think people don’t care about their politics. We just want good music. I don’t listen to artists or radio personalities on music stations to help me decide my political leanings. I have the ability to think with reason and logic. I wish they would stick to what they’re good at and leave the rest to the pundits.
