Yes it's a depressant. IE; a central nervous system depressent like chamomile or valerian root. It's a relxant, not a stimulant. Something that a good many people need in these stressful times.

One pint of beer reduces DNA damage by 34% in radiation exposure (another thing we need now with our weakening geomagnetic field and enhanced cosmic rays and UVC from the Sun).

Quit alcohol all you like, I've had full on Delerium Tremens experiences in the past and it's the scariest thing I've ever encountered, but moderate drinking is absolutely healthy, if you're of Western/Northern European background, alcohol is part of your very culture and the reason your ancestors survived and led to your birth.

Self moderation.

When someone else attempts to do it for you, it is something else entirely. There is a distinction. Some people can't self moderate. The two shouldn't be forced to share the same blanket.

The founding fathers were a bunch of moonshining, rum drinking, good ol boys. I have had many a great idea and solutions to problems while drinking and thinking. Kinda like taking mushrooms, if your mind isn't right when you do it the outcome will be bad. Even Jesus drank lol.

I totally agree. I only very recently gave up beer because I was NOT moderating properly and losing control. What was 6 beers, because 9 beers a day which for a female is waaaaay too much.


It was a very personal decision I made knowing I never wanted to go back to the space I was in, just prior to giving it up.

Hitting bottom there's no where left to go, but back up.

9 beers is just right for a weekend.. But not every day. You did the right thing.

Thank you. I prided myself on drinking slowly and stretching 9 beers out over 9 hours. But still it's too much and every day, way too much.

I'm sleeping so much better. Which for me makes the loss of the daily buzz, totally worth it.

The two states within which I feel at my best... 15 UK pints into a 20 pint binge (so about 10 litres total);

or 5 days into a 7 day water fast (no food/booze/calories).

I'm a bit of an extremist.

As much as I enjoy my pour of good single malt, I have never felt the urge to taste someone's brain; although, conversations with the mind of some drunks has left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Yeah you have to drink more and more. I've been out of control for awhile now. But I am doing my best to skip days and just chill out. Gotta rein it back in...stop saying yes all the time

I was abusing it to cope and that is a one way ticket to dependence, which is rampant in my family.

My parents warned me endlessly having grown up with alcoholic parents of their own.


Thankfully, I stopped before it became a physical dependency and am rolling up on a month clean/sober here shortly.

I quit THC the same day for similar reasons.


I just wieghed myself and have lost 3 more pounds. 10lbs from my goal weight.

I work hard running a farm everyday 365 and everyday I have two bottles of angry orchard after my nightly chores. I don't beat my wife or kids bills are paid and the house is stocked with food everyone gets everything they need and most of what they want. Am I going to hell for this? Think maybe it's a matter of learning not to binge drink that's the problem people have.

Alcoholism sneaks up on you. Sure there are all kinds of functioning alcoholics.
I have never seen anything good come out of being dependent on a mind altering substance, just has not caught up to you yet.

Moderation is the key for me. A good whisky on a cold night is amazing. A very cold drink on a hot summer day is wonderful. Getting drunk is no fun lol but a sip or two is fun.

You must have a cast iron stomach.

good advice. i used to drink almost everyday. im at about once a week now, and working at it. for all the times that are fine there always slips in that one really shitty time and cancels them all out...
