Yes -- there are many security flaws ... The security company that works the gates just yells at people going in and looks tough. They don't do anything helpful or competent. I say fire them immediately.

I found a video that shows people jumping over a fence into the State Fair just before
the shooting happened. I wonder if that's how they got around security at the entrances?

Minnesota has no idea how to address their crime problem.

They are afraid to confront and acknowledge reality.

This is sickening to me. The State Fair was 10 days of peace like Christmas Eve my whole life growing up. You never saw one fight or argument ever, with tens of thousands of people there all day.

That's sacred territory they are trespassing on.

I grew up in MN as well and agree with this completely. There would never have been any unrest at the "great Minnesota get together" of our youth.

They had multiple law enforcement agencies there every day, including swat teams. Also, it is a gun free zone... So, do YOU want to be give up your gun and be a sitting duck? I don't think so. Law enforcement, even if there are a billion of them, won't help you in shooting that happens within under a minute, think about it.

I don't necessarily agree with the idea, but "gun free zone" should mean that nobody (except for officers) has a gun. The fact that someone was able to get a gun into the fairgrounds says that the security company they have doing screenings at the gates is useless.

I used to stand on a corner and drink it in, deeply appreciating the neighborly peace and positive attitude of everyone there, mutual respect, mutual regard, just wanting to have a good time, everyone feeling at home.

I fully realized how rare it was in this world, and in how many countries you would never be able to have that many people together in one place, all day and all evening for days on end, and not have armed soldiers with rifles on every corner.

You never even saw the police there. They would drive in the parades, that's about it. No need for them at all.

In case people on this thread don't know what we're talking about, the Minnesota State Fair is the second largest in the nation, second only after Texas, and it is a very big deal.

Look at these daily attendance figures. I've been there on many days like that, all day, for days on end.

We are very proud of our state fair, even after we move away. I think it's gotten commercialized, but it's still the State Fair.
