The future will be more like the “stacks” from the movie Ready Player One. Ignore the pop culture elements and just look at the living conditions in that movie.

I'd rather have a small apartment built well so I don't hear people above and around me and then an apartment where they build it out of sticks and I can hear pounding and screaming all around me.

More likely it will be a small one that I can still hear everything because they build these things cheap as s***

I've toured a few of these in Oakland, not 100 stories high but similar in many ways,450-500 sq feet, completely teched out with cameras outside each room, appliances you can control with your smart phone, and just a very eerie feeling where everything echoes like crazy.

Doesn't give you that homly feeling at all, you almost feel like you're living in a voluntary jail cell. No lie

LOL NO!

Heck, I moved into a 2000 sq ft home 2 years ago because that's what sits on this 5.25 acres spot that I love out here in the middle of a large forest and wildlife preserve. A 500 sq ft room is currently packed wall to wall, floor to ceiling, with stuff that won't fit into the rest of the house. I really need a home at least twice this size. There isn't room to even set up my stereo and speakers. I tried but I thought the vibration from the loud music would cause the place to eventually fall apart. And it just takes up too much space, made the living room feel even smaller. I've considered knocking this place down and building a 6,000 sq ft home but zoning law limits the size out here. And I'm already 65 years old. My luck would be that I'd probably die the day construction would be completed. I do have my large RV parked here, so I can at least use that for visitors (my grandkids actually like staying in there when visiting, it's just like going camping out here for them).

The tiny apartment high rises and no yards are for young and single city dwellers. They seek bars, theaters, and fine dining that cities offer. Families will require larger homes with yards for the kids and their dog. And those that are retired, like me, and seeking solitude and tranquil will want a larger yet property out in the country with trees surrounding them. They need a large garden to attend to and a large yard to spend their idle time mowing in the summer. They also need room for an outbuilding to contain their hobby (i.e. woodworking shop, or classic car restoration project).

Not all humans are the same and seek the same.

I skipped the young partying phase. Married abs started a family early. But I did rent a penthouse atop a highrise 10 years ago to experience the batchelor lifestyle for a while. Then sold my business and moved into the burbs. But the riots changed my mind and decided to get out into the countryside. And this is where I'm staying until the world ends next year, lol.

they (wef) did say they wanted to move people out of rural areas, into big cities, exactly like in the photo and turn everything else in to nature reserves that you could only enter with a permit.

pretty sure thats what OP is referring too.

the whole 'youll own nothing' thing includes the theft of private property. and relocation would be done from your house, to a place like this.

in their fantasy/dreams. but it is in fact something they said they are planning on. for the west

I lived in an old victorian era walk up in Manhattan NYC for 26 years. I miss it. It was to small, about 250 sq ft, 400 would have been ideal. For one person though, it's enough space, that's not the issue. It's the dystopian no trees high rise thing that sucks. Do the same size apartment in 4 story buildings surrounded by greenery and garden spaces, it's a whole other story.

Right. "smart residences".
Look at how some places are controlling the a/c in homes now.
Screw that.

America can't even build one of these towers in a year, let alone enough to house everyone in every city of every state in 8 years.

Who would want to build them? Who would want to live in them?

I can see a future exactly like Brave New World, with the zombies living in their soulless skyscrapers, and the 'Outlaws' living free in the wilderness.

You can have your 'well built, well insulated' little micro apartment.

I'll stick to my 3.1k sq ft old farmhouse on 6 acres.

It's drafty, the floors creak, and its not very well insulated but I'm in the middle of nowhere so no neighbors.

Nope it’s going backwards, internet and delivery networks have made cities obsolete and unnecessary people are moving back to more rural areas now that work is easily telecommuted or done online and the network range of goods and services has reached them.

The only people moving into cities right now are pure degenerates but the trend is back to suburb and rural once again

450 sqft 1 bedroom micro apartments in 100 story high rise complexes.

This is Hong Kong, and the future in every metropolitan city in America.

These are already going up everywhere in California, and it's only a matter of time before the suburbs and rural towns are completely destroyed across the US.
