I am so sorry OC. The end is always the hardest part of having a pet you love,but its inevitable. The Circle of Life can be harsh and bitter. Be gentle with yourself. And its OK to cry. ALOT.

So sorry for your loss, Cookie.

I had NO idea about this with mice and decon - now it makes me wonder about our cat that was unwell very fast, as a matter of fact I did not even notice - my son was alarmed - as this cat went out the back never to return.

Cookie, I hope you are doing ok. I really had waves of grief and I still deal with them - like storms that roll through.

I noticed when I lost my recent, long-term kitty a hummingbird that very day around my front door - literally just after I came back from taking him to the crematorium.
I put out a feeder that very day -
I feel so blessed now to have frequent visitors to this feeder, and all this was new just as I lost my kitty.

Look for signs and messages - I bet you find some.

I think these kinds of intimate losses bring up other
things that we "bundle together" in our hearts. That's
part of the reason (especially for older folks) it is
so intense.

I treasure my memories of Teaky--as I do for all the
pets along my life's journey I have loved.

We'll see each other again. I know we will.

I don't know if I never knew an animal could get what
they call "Secondary Poisoning" from a mouse who had eaten
a rat poison--or anything toxic for that matter. Maybe I
knew it and have just forgotten.

I truly "get" what you mean about "waves of grief"--it can
hit you very unexpectedly and in odd places and times.
I broke down at my local coffee shop this a.m. thinking
about Teaky and how the house will seem to have "changed"
without his beautiful presence missing. Like I said above
in Louis from Richmond's reply--a loss like this can bring
up OTHER LOSS and seems like we "bundle things" emotionally
at times like this.

I heard Teaky's little Meow as I was waking up this A.M.
He would always come wake me up if his kibble bowl was
empty. I took his plate up last night. Now I'm thinking
I will just leave his dish with kibble on the floor for
a few days. I've heard their spirit does linger sometimes.

I really think I heard Teaky's meow early this A.M.
SERIOUSLY!

My Teaky cat had a specific call to me in the early A.M.
if his kibble dish was empty. He would sometimes even
wake me up. I woke up this A.M. to the very distinct SOUND
of his call.

I decided to put a full dish of kitty kibble where he
passed just in case he is still lingering and thinks he's
out of food.

He really was beautiful. Really big too, nearly 20 lbs.



He wasn't as fat as this big guy--but he was part Maine Coone
so if you know that breed you understand why even if he
was a "Tuxedo color" (that's NOT a breed)...he was very large.

Oh it’s so hard saying goodbye to pets. There just doesn’t seem to be anyway to stop the hurting except time.

I’m afraid of D-con. I’ve gone so far as to talk to neighbors about not using that poison. It will also kill owls if they ingest a poisoned rodent.

I absolutely believe we will meet up with our pets on the other side.
