The stock was taken from the base of the tusk, where it was widest. Very beautiful, outstanding quality craftsmanship. Most likely dates from the Renaissance; made in Northern Italy. |

But having said that, it is a very interesting and highly detailed work of art. Due to its size, I suspect it was carved from whale bone, which means its age could be anywhere from ten to three hundred years old. So, let's say it's whale bone and was carved in the 19th century. Its value would be anywhere from $500 - $2000. |
