75k dollars?!?!? Really? Are new trucks that bad??
So, I live in a pretty nice rural area near the Ocala Nat'l Forest in Fl.

My home on 6 acres is probably the smallest and cheapest home within a 5-6 mile area.

Some of these homes near me are over 10k sq ft and on 10-20 acres. John Travolta's fly-in neighborhood isn't too far from my home and I've seen his Gulfstream and his Boeing 707 numerous times circling in for a landing.

Lots of Range Rovers, Lexus LX470's, a Ferrari or two and Mercedes G-Wagons are what I see around my area driving.

No, I am not rich. My home is the odd one out. A 1960s farmhouse that seems spacious but with 4 kids and numerous animals, is actually kind of cramped.

So, when I tell you all my old trucks and SUV's are out of place, believe me.

However my pride enjoy is my 97 'Yota FJ80 that's been lifted, supercharged, has a full roof rack with roof tent and awning, and all kinds of other goodies that make it a pleasure off-road and camping.

Same for my 2002 Excursion 7.3 Powerstroke Limited.

I've had the Excursion lifted on 35's with full roofrack, brushguard, and all kinds of goodies that give the diesel engine/driveline more power and reliability.

Both trucks are absolutely flawless and their restorations were a labor of love for me over the past 5-6 yrs I've owned them.

Now, I had a neighbor I have never met before come to my gate and asked to speak to me.

I went out and met him and started talking. It has occurred to him recently how much he dislikes newer trucks.

He said his 2 yr old Range Rover Sport already has rust underneath and everytime something needs to be done for regular maintenance its almost 1k.

Same for his F350 King Ranch and his wife's Escalade. He said he is having so many troubles with each one he's over it all.

He offered me 75k cash for both the Excursion and the Landcruiser

Obviously 75k would look good in my safe but I politely declined. I did all the work myself on both of my trucks with the exception of the paint and suspension powder coating. Blood, sweat, and tears went into each truck by the bucket loads.

But still 75k??? For a 20 and a 25yr old truck?

Wow.

I wonder what my 97 F350 Powerstroke SRW, my 97 2dr Tahoe Sport Z71, and my 06 Duramax LBZ Dually are worth.

With the exception of my Duramax, all my other trucks were purchased for well under 10k.

I just like old trucks. These new trucks are POS's. They've been absolutely ruined with overcomplicated tech, intrusive emissions, and designed obsolescence. I made the mistake of buying a 2018 Duramax LTZ Dually and it turned out to be a 80k absolute piece of shit.

Anyone else have crazy offers for their old iron??

Really nothing else to this thread. I was just blown away by that 75k offer.

Have a good day GLPeeps.

Go thru bring a trailer website and see what your stuff is worth. Thin the herd. Nobody needs 11 vehicles

Hottest trucks and tractors in the farm market are pre 2000s.

Today's trucks and tractors are dripping with computers. You cant fix them yourself. If they are out of production, the dealer cant fix them... because they are so complicated that its too hard to diagnose a problem so they just replace with new. Sometimes that works, sometimes not-so-much. Regardless, it ALWAYS costs way too much.

Parts are cheap plastic or composite with plastic that becomes brittle and breaks within the first few years of existence. Replacement parts are generally knock-off from china, or OEM parts with cheap chinese components. Neither of which stand the test of time.

New cars are expensive and essentially disposable. Which makes the claims that older cars have poor "carbon footprints" ridiculous. I mean which one has the bigger carbon footprint; a new car that lasts 3 to 5 years and has to be replaced, or a 30 year old truck that can be repaired and used indefinitely?

These greenies are utter whack jobs. Dont get me started on AGW. For anyone following astronomy, mankinds use of carbon energy products is changing the weather on every planet in the solar system. In lock step. Solar weather has been co-opted and hidden in favor of blame-people and seize rights by our controllers.

This America and we have a capitalist society here. You can have whatever you want and if you think that it's worth it, than that's what matters. I wouldn't depend on someone here to influence a 75k decision for me, though.

As a fellow who has been blessed with a very pleasing 1988 Toyota FJ62, Being the least most expensive used vehicle Ive ever owned, with approx 230k Miles on it. I am with you.

I cannot justify the down payment or significant amount of money which can be used for housing, Or other wise investments, Getting an old Toyota is becoming a hard thing to do because everyone wants them. I would keep your pride and enjoy your 97 FJ80 its just as good as a LX470/Gwagon build-wise, where it counts.

Pretty soon FJ62-FJ80 will be in the 80-100K Range for halfway decent condition
Its best you hold onto yours and continue working with it,
I wish I had the skills and tools to work on mine, I have though a very trustworthy nearby Cruiser mechanic called 4WheelAuto (Edmonton).

I h8mudforum is an awesome resource! Im surprised to see you here on GLP. Enjoy your trucks.

Shit, they've been manipulating and keeping those prices lower than they should be for years. The cat is out of the bag.

Literally we are printing worthless paper dollars with no accountability.

It should probably be more like a billion U.S. for that truck in reality.

I was offered 5000 $ Cash for my 1988 Cruiser which has big rust holes on the doors and missing a fender. (And a headlight). Ridiculous offer, considering the truck was a write-off 10 years before.

I am with you here, I do not believe in the Climate Change agenda and the mentality that these older vehicles are worse for the environment, Even without catalytic convertors, my FJ62 1988 has saved me the need to buy anything newer. I am 36 and have owned the Landcruiser since I was 27. It was my 4th vehicle.

My first vehicle was a Geo Metro,
Second a GMC Jimmy,
Third a Jaguar XJ6,
and 4th the 1988 Landcruiser.

The best of all 4 by far and large, the cheapest to run and most robust in terms of production quality and reliability, durability, longitivtiy, etc.

All the planets are changing, the whole galaxy and everything is always growing I think, There is more for us to learn below our feet than we could ever imagine.

I believe earths core is a naturally occurring quantum Crystal core computer, laden with Gold, and other elements neatly packed into a solid iron crystalline core, Which makes our magnetic field. Which I believe is a planetary network,
Which gives life, to us, and we are therefore stored in the core, our lives are growing the core, so to speak, at a rate of about 1MM per year on the object which is the size of Pluto, It is very interesting.

The fact they are trying to scam everyone and slow down progression in the name of saving the planet will lead to its untimely demise because we need to advance things as fast a possible to ultimately get off or under the world, in the oceans etc, to survive long term anyways.

Taxing everyone and slowing down progression toward a technological singularity for money and carbon tax is just sad.

My Jaguar suffered multiple Light fixture failures which ultimately cost thousands only to fail again, So it won't pass safety anymore because one of the lights are out and require all new electronics packing and those blinker boxes and huge black fuses that are ridiculous in their nature.

My Jimmy died due to a Rod failure after accelerating to the pedal on the highway at 300k Miles.

My Geo metro died while driving it, the engine failed due to engine oil loss and damage to the engine. This was a car you had to basically pedal on the highway and my stepdad made me drive it with low oil once on the freeway pedal to the metal, It died a couple years later, surprisingly long time for the damage that was done to it.

My 1988 LandCruiser has a mint engine and drivetrain and when I look at it I salivate at its potential. It does need some minor repairs, but all in all, it is a miracle.

Have an 03 7.3l excursion that is worth 20k more than I paid for it according to eBay bids. Neighbors have asked if I ever plan to sell it. Fuck no I won't. I fix everything in it with ease and have no car payments and if not going over 1800 rpm it sips diesel. Have idled up rough mountain trails for hours using next to no fuel plus I can burn filtered wvo oil or waste motor oil in it.
