Far too many low IQ tards here these days just reactively commenting. This is a genuine mystery! Something that has never been solved despite thousands of scholars attempting to. Contribute something useful or go back to your safe space.

Not water. Markings look too distinctive for that.

I'm going with some laser beam attack or similar - haha.

People argue between sandstone which is soft and granite which is hard. Either way if you put raw fish in vinegar it gets cooked by the vinegar. Lol

It’s obviously not erosion. You can see that material was built up at the base of each step and erosion is the opposite. I don’t know what makes molten granite pool, and run like sludge but there certainly appears to be mysterious forces at work here!

That looks to me like centuries of foot traffic as the temple is tended by it's keepers and priests. Same kind of wear that makes "traffic lanes" in carpeting, but lots slower.

Here is a theory...

After years of wear and tear, the stairs wore down. Someone then tried to repair it with a material that had viscous properties. The repair slowly failed over time and then solidified.

I feel like the ancients had knowledge of a special Concrete mixture. That knowledge is lost.

Vat of something caustic that was on the upper landing fell over towards down stairs and trickled and pooled. Perhaps ancient booby trap.

LOL, nobody is actually researching, just speculating. If they took the time to watch the geopolymer video the discussion would be over.

It is no longer a mystery.

I disagree with the author of this image - it looks more to me like water erosion.

Does this give more credence to the Great Flood?

Could this have been caused by the receding of the waters and the damage to the stairs that happened over a great period of time by trickles of water?

...and finally - does this give us a hint to the real date of the pyramids?
 Quoting: Bodhi Sita

How can water erode granite without damage to the walls?, that would take a long time of water running down the steps to erode granite, you would think there would be damage on the walls in the staircase but there is not.

Something strange happen then and we will just never know.

It was a combination of 3 plant extracts that were commonly used to dissolve granite in ancient times, aiding in the creation of so-called "cut granite" stones that were actually poured, tamped, and hardened:

My mind imagines an acid solution or some type of chemical reaction causing this. We do know alchemy has been the interest of humans for a long time.

Archaeologists ought to be hanging their heads in abject shame for even suggesting this was water erosion. In 'science' you go where the facts lead you, not shoehorn the facts to fit a preconceived paradigm.

Best guess - it was done by intense plasma and electric arc effects during the last solar micro-nova event about 12,000 yrs ago, along with the numerous other heat glazing, damage to be seen on other blocks and statues.

Water likely dripped from the wall up top.

Over a long period of time it would have left that.

Meh.

Why were the walls not affected? Zilch there. They look fairly pristine. Why do so many comment here on things they aren't educated enough on to even begin to comment?

Re: What do you think did this to Hathor's Stairs?
An episode of hathor turning into sekmet and losing control, slaughtering humans and melting the ground she walked on

Sekhmet was the daughter of Ra, and another incarnation of the goddess Hathor. When Ra decided he was going to destroy mankind, Hathor turned into Sekhmet, a bloodthirsty being who unleashed her rage and violence on humans in return for their indifference and disobedience to the gods. She wrought havoc on the earth, almost destroying all of mankind, drinking the blood of the dead and dying as she went along. Finally, Ra realized that he made a mistake but he could stop Sekhmet. He devised a plan to turn a brew some beer and dye it red, and poured it onto the ground below. Sekhmet thought the beer was blood and drank it all, causing her to become drunk and eventually pass out. When she awoke, she was the kindly Hathor again. This episode is thought to explain the flooding of the Nile each year when it runs red with silt, and Sekhmet swallowing the river back to keep it from destroying Egypt. Many traditions of this story, however, separated the two beings from one another at this point. Hathor went back to Ra, but Sekhmet remained as well, continuing to cause war and fire wherever she can find an opportunity.

Maybe some volcanic activity happened in those times and a lava stream flowed down those steps which gradually melted the steps and then over the many years the rains eroded the lava to leave what we see now!

Re: What do you think did this to Hathor's Stairs?
If you put a level across those stairs it is clearly higher in the middle in some spots compared to the sides.

How does something erode and leave more material?

It resembles a liquid flow. Even some of straight angles of the steps that are carved are bowed like they were melted.
