Was John Candy's character trying to bang the mom in Home Alone?

I admittedly haven't seen this film in years but its just bothered me more and more, the guy was clearly laying down the charm and the polka dick. And she wasn't fighting it at all from what I could tell. I wish she had let that ginger bush fly, I get it her kid was home alone, but she was already a terrible mother at this point, she can't become worse of one right?
