Bernie Sanders (I-VT) blocked a Republican effort to require railroad employees and companies to accept recommendations of a nonpartisan panel in order to avoid a strike which, if it goes through, will impact millions of Americans. The GOP resolution - introduced by Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Commission Ranking Member Richard Burr (R-NC) and Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MI), would have required railroad workers to adopt the outlines of a labor deal, The Hill reports. According to the Vermont Senator, railroad companies are making 'huge profits' and should treat employees more fairly. "The rail industry has seen huge profits in recent years and last year alone made a record breaking $20 billion in profit," he said. "Last year the CEO of CSX made over $20 million in total compensation while the CEOs of Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern made over $40 million each in total compensation." Sanders contrasted that to freight rail workers who are "entitled to a grand total of zero sick days." According to GOP Senators, their resolution would have avoided a "disastrous" rail strike, which could bring rail travel and freight shipments grinding to a halt across the country. Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Democrats were putting the economy at risk. "If a strike occurs and paralyzes food, fertilizer and energy shipments nationwide, it will be because Democrats blocked this bill," he tweeted. Feel the BURNIE... User ID: 79785318 United States 09/15/2022 02:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I suspect that the left has cooked up to initiate an attempt to try to recreate the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and false flag it as their red October surprise. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 84138717 They're actually freaking out which is why teven the conservative "media" is subtly crafting their coverage, the government has already said they're not stepping in, and the railroad companies are actually in the process of locking the employees out before they can strike. Tldr there's 3 other major strikes or etc in the offing in the logistics sector alone so the fat cats and government are gonna play this one super grimy, make Americans suffer, do everything they can to make the union the bad guys, and etc. More or less though, our logistics system is potentially weeks to at most 6 months from collapsing anyway due ENTIRELY to corporate greed and shortsightedness. This strike is the American people's ONE CHANCE to do this on their own terms before this shit "collapses anyway" in a controlled way that will allow the corporations and the government (same thing at this point) force us into "their solution" which we'll have no choice but to accept because people will literally be starving. ALSO if the railroad strike can stay on for long enough, it will prevent the food monopolies from selling off so much of our harvests to China and etc that Americans are going to starve this winter... I've been following this and the runup to it since the beginning of 2022 and there's just way too much for me to go into all of it because the post will not get read in full. Suffice it to say though that we ordinary Americans need to back this strike to the fullest because it's quite literally our last best chance to avoid perpetual slavery and some incredibly fucked up shit. roguetechie |

I'm glad Bernie blocked it I admit I haven't followed the specifics on this too closely, but I defintely acknowledge that rail workers work their asses off and likely deserve what they're asking for. I wrote a more detailed reply below and people really need to read it. I am not joking or blowing things out of proportion in that post either. The true complexities behind all this and the potential ramifications if the railroad guys fold or get forced into folding by the pressure campaign being mobilized against them will in my very educated and informed assessment make or break the average American for years if not decades to come. We are on the edge of a disaster most people couldn't wrap their heads around even if they knew everything I've managed to put together of the puzzle pieces. The good news is, if we support the railroad guys, and then the ups guys, and then the FedEx guys, AND THEN the California dock workers... The Biden administration is so weak scared and ineffective we could actually bring the house down on them to a point where getting things back on track with new people in DC is actually a very real possibility. They are weak, terrified, desperate, insanely dangerous, and too delusional to see that if they do get their way they're going to destroy western civilization because their grand vision of the future is fully fucking impossible. And that's something people here need to understand, if we don't support this strike and make sure they pull out a win against everything that will be thrown against them... Our leaders and corporate overlords are going to get us all fucking killed. If you want to live and want a world for the children of today to grow up in that's not utter hell on earth, now is the time to stand with these unions and workers. roguetechie |

You're not wrong. The entire logistics system of the western first world is failing, our leaders are weak stupid deranged cultists who want a great reset that's not fucking possible and will get us all killed, and the people in power know that shits on it's way to collapse which is why they're desperately framing "trump supporters" as an internal enemy to blame all of this on because it's pretty literally the only way they MIGHT hold on to power is to turn the rest of society against us and have a good old fashioned genocide party. When people this powerful rich deluded and desperate get as scared as our leadership is now, historically incredibly fucked up shit happens if they're not stopped before it's too late. Expect extremely fucked up shit to happen, expect the media to lie like never before, and expect horrifying incidents to be manufactured very shortly. It's all coming and much of the worst of it may already be unavoidable. roguetechie |
