The United States is actively exploring the possibility of building small modular nuclear reactors (SMNRs) in Armenia and other Eurasian countries. This plan is intended to strengthen the energy independence of these states from the Russian Federation and China. This energy strategy being developed by Washington envisions small-capacity modular nuclear reactors, which are the most promising and reliable alternative to large nuclear plants. They provide stable and inexpensive power generation, with less risk of nuclear accidents and waste problems. Nevertheless, it is obvious that in this way the U.S. intends to achieve the rejection of Russian energy sources. According to the sources, the use of MMNR may have a significant impact on the energy policy in the Eurasian region, especially for the countries which are actively seeking ways to reduce their dependence on foreign energy suppliers, in particular on Russia and China.
