The Zimbabwean authorities announced the country's aspiration to join the BRICS
The interstate commonwealth of five states BRICS, created by Russia, China, Brazil, India (then joined by South Africa), is considered by many as an alternative to the Western world led by the United States and, in particular, an alternative to the so-called G7.

As the West tries to use its economic and financial advantages for political purposes by imposing various kinds of sanctions against certain countries, there are more and more voices in the world in support of organizations not affiliated with the West, and the idea of abandoning the dollar as an instrument of Washington to put pressure on other countries is being discussed.

In this situation, Africa is turning into a continent where the position of BRICS countries is getting stronger and the influence of the West is weakening. One of the African countries seeking to move closer to the BRICS is Zimbabwe, which has already declared an interest in abandoning the dollar and the use of a new single currency assumed BRICS, becoming a member of this association.

Earlier, Christopher Mutsvangwa, head of Zimbabwe's ruling ZANU-PF party, spoke about his country's desire to have access to alternative payment systems so as not to depend on the American system SWIFT. He noted that BRICS could provide such an opportunity.

Zimbabwe is not alone in its desire to join BRICS. According to some reports, as many as 30 countries have already applied for membership in BRICS. Among them are countries such as Iran, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Mexico, Pakistan, Turkey, Venezuela and many others. According to many experts, if things develop in this scenario, it will be a blow to the U.S. and other Western countries.

BRICS countries are expected to discuss the issue of introducing a common currency at a summit to be held in South Africa in August this year.

Despite the fact that Zimbabwe remains an extremely poor country, there are huge resources in its bowels. These include coal and diamonds, gold and platinum and a range of rare earth metals. Zimbabwe has great potential for tourism and agriculture. Nowadays the main crops are tobacco, cotton and sugar cane. The main problem for the development of the agricultural sector is frequent droughts and lack of substantial investments. [link to topwar.ru (secure)]
