A cease-fire between Moscow and Kiev is impossible at the moment, as the former can use it to further strengthen their positions in Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by White House spokesman John Kirby.

"Russia would actually be allowed to use the ceasefire to further strengthen its positions in Ukraine, regroup and strengthen its forces ... to resume attacks," Kirby said, commenting on Beijing's earlier proposed plan for a peace settlement in Ukraine, RIA Novosti reported. He added that such a move would mark Russia's violation of the UN charter.

Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said that Russia and Ukraine would not be able to reach a path of cooperation and ceasefire in the next 100 years.
