Sorry. We had an OD at my daughter’s high school last year. I spoke to a police officer and he said kids are buying Percocet and OxyContin which is being laced with Fentanyl, even weed now. He said they all have to wear gloves and carry narcan. He said it’s getting really bad.

Nope, for a while there has been plenty of fake prescription drugs that are fentanyl. There is now also a flood of colorful pills that look like XTC pills of the 90s that are in fact fentanyl.

And meth has never gone away, it's cheaper, more plentiful, and higher quality than ever. Mass quantities are being produced in Mexican cartel superlabs.

It's real for people who buy street drugs. It can be disguised as anything. As someone said, not so horrible if you're looking for heroin unless someone got carried away with the cut. But a kid looking for a Xanax could be dead instantly.

One of the problems is the potency of the pills and powders varies dramatically.

What might have been a safe (relatively speaking) dose of the last pills or powder you got could easily be a deadly dose with the next batch of pills or powder you get.

It's a legit problem, but the addicts are fueling it. Fentanyl, nevermind its much stronger analogues, is 50:1 potency to pure heroin. That makes it much easier to smuggle in, but that is also due to the US's demand for it. It started with Heroin being cut with it, and when an addict died, everyone wanted to find their dealer because they obviously had the good shit... then people started realizing you could just use fentanyl it's much cheaper, potent, etc, so demand for (street) fentanyl went way up. It's been around for decades as an Rx painkiller, but drug's progress like technology, smaller, stronger, faster, etc... The stories of someone touching a dollar bill that had fentanyl on it, or was in the same room as fentanyl and died, are typically bullshit. If a cop or coroner etc was "exposed" to carfentanyl, or etorphine, etc, I could perhaps believe it, but that's very unlikely unless they decided to dabble a little themselves and "oops" they died, then yeah that could happen and they run the story as if the substance being absorbed from a dollar bill onto someone's skin and they died, etc. The biggest "emergency" is the fact that they are making fake pills everything from adderall to roxies that are cut with fentanyl. Anything you can get on the street, meth, coke, mdma, pills, all can and often do contain fentanyl. Dealers attempt to put just enough to get their [meth] customers physically addicted to the opioid without the user realizing it. problem is, most dealers aren't very careful, and most addicts are even less so... Literally, if someone is consuming drugs, opioids in particular, harm reductionists would insist on a test dose, as in, do 1/10th of your normal dose to make sure it is what it should be. With the pills, if you think it's oxy and its fent, most people would be aware of the risk, and should still at least do a test before getting high. This country's demand for drugs, fentanyl and opioids, and methamphetamine, is the only reason we have this situation on our hands... The cartels don't sit around and get high, they drink beer and laugh at the amounts of money and lengths american's are willing to go to for a little baggy of drugs. Well, lower level dealers do. To them, it's about money, has it been hijacked and used as a weapon against us? Most definitely. But i believe it is just opportunists taking one more approach at the destruction of our society. I am an ex addict of 20 years, I used fentanyl in 2004 and had an Oxycontin habit that would've translated to $2400/day. I've used Heroin, fentanyl, meth, coke most street drugs, all IV as well. I have od'd but never woke up in the hospital or even had narcan administered. A shot of black tar, dilaudid, crystal meth mixed with liquid valium would kill most people, but our bodies can develop mind boggling tolerances. So to answer the OP's question: YES. But don't believe the media.

The kids dying from Xanax tend to be getting Research Chemical grade benzo's that are essentially the fentanyl of benzo's, but some may have fentanyl, it's just not very bioavailable, so putting it into an oral drug isn't as cost effective. When you can get Flualprazolam, or Clonazolam, which are prob 4-6x stronger mg:mg than xanax, at a literal fraction of the cost, it's the same idea, but the same precautions should be taken, so many addicts are fuckin idiots (I am an addict and was far worse for 20 years) though that they are just as culpable as the dealer, the chemist, or the cartel... just fyi.
