You do realize that hundreds of thousands of people like you asked the same question during WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. The life expectancy of going was literally months.
Aircrew during WWII got up in the morning and ate their breakfast knowing 3/4 of them would not come back out of a hundred airplanes during a raid.
And guess what?
They went and did what they were told, fled to another country dropping everything they had here, committed suicide, shot them selves in the foot and went to jail or just went to jail (today jail would end your life as you know it especially when the patriots find you).
A war that would require the draft would have no doubt brought the country together like it did on 9/11 2001. Any dodger would be equivalent to a domestic radical Islamic terrorist on 9/12 2001 in the eyes of the country.
