Can people be forced to join the army?

No! That stopped in the 1980's with Reagan. The court cannot force you to join the service anymore. For a while the armed services had a very clean military in general. Only HS graduates or GED with 12 units of JC. No visible tattoo's. No drug or alcohol history. No mental health issues, not even meds for ADHD. No allergies to bee's, penicillin, or flat or overly arched feet.
Remember one of the Columbine shooters was turned down from military service due to a history or taking ADHD medications. Which sent him on a spiral downward or wanting to kill his normal class mates, instead of terrorist.
Now, almost every thing goes. I had an A-school corpsman helping me at the VI doing basic vitals and she had scars from cutting her arms up and down them. In my day in the 1980's that sort of person would have not even been considered fit for service. Now, they have cross dressing and transitioning service members. That is really sad too.
