A Complete Foxfire Series 14-Book Collection Series is good to have on hand. For over 40 years, high school students in Foxfire programs have helped to gather and publish information about their Southern Appalachian heritage. This is a collection of books that explain long lost or forgotten skills with information on how to perform them now. They will be very useful to people who are planning to homestead or just to experience the 'old ways' of doing things.

This shit always makes me laugh. I'm not saying nuclear war isn't going to set us back tech-wise, but damn we aren't going to forget everything. This isn't Men in Black. We have books. Building a kiln and making pottery isn't hard. That's a few thousand year advancement on pine needle basket weaving. My bet is if the electricity goes down and 90+% of us are wiped out, it won't be more than a few years before small clusters of electricity are back online. Stop watching movies.

Yes. You want to make bread? Yeast can be found on blueberries and the berries of cedar trees. It's the whitish coating on them. Fox fire may have some gems in them but they have equal amounts of useless and false information. There are better books that don't waste so much of your time. Basic survival is about fire and water. Keep your insides wet and your outsides dry. You have a fire within you that must be fed. Making fire is like feeding a baby, start with very fine tinder and not blowing too hard on it gradually increasing size and intensity as the flames grow. Water can be found in most lowlands simply by digging in low areas where water-loving plants grow (ferns, jack in the pulpit, nettles etc).

If there are fish in the creek, I can usually put them on the table. I don't have the whole survival skill set, but maybe that will help.

Grapes and grape leaves also have natural yeast on them.

Getting water is one thing, making it safe is another. For example, the so-called survivalists or preppers I’ve spoken with over the years (I’m neither, btw) are blissfully unaware that water obtained from ponds or lakes with green algae is quite often toxic even when filtered, or that their fancy Katadyn filter does nothing to remove substances that are lighter than water, such as oil or gasoline. Half of these Rambo/YouTube types are going to die off in short order if they have to rely on their “knowledge”.

I don’t see why not. I grew up in a pre technology world, including a few years when the family was on a self sufficiency kick.

I grew up during pre-technology living on a poor small farm growing our own food, raising livestock, hunt, fish and using bailing wire to fix everything.

Bottom line from my perspective, you're all screwed.
Good luck to you. sfan

Re: Do You Have The Skills To Live In A Post Technology World?
Not simply skills to survive but also, skills to thrive.

I’ve always had a passion for learning how to do/make things from scratch. I don’t just want to know how to bake bread. I want to grind my own flour and grow my own grain. I don’t just want to sew, crochet and knit. I want grow, process and spin my own fiber and weave my own cloth.

Use technology now, learn as much as you can of skills that have been (nearly) lost.

BTW, has anyone watched any basket weaving tutorials? I want to learn that next!
