They took face reading very seriously then too. They knew people's facial features point to personality traits for better or worse. Paintings of demons and such had physical features of bad people.

Of course face reading would be called very racist today, though it tells the truth. It's to let us know what we are dealing with when we encounter people, letting us know if they are more likely to be friend or foe.
