Yes, land procured, supplies ready, scouting done. Initial camp set up with tent some stored supplies (no food due to bears - think saws, hammers, axes), water purification worked out, and wood stove.

It is difficult because the nearest road is 1/2 mile away and there isn't good parking and supplies have to be brought in by foot for 3/4 mile trial with 800 ft. of elevation gain.

It is very peaceful when you get in to camp. We use backpacks and a Gorilla cart with one person pulling and one pushing to get supplies moved.

I don't really feel anything imminent but I will say I just got back from a 4 state road trip and everytime I came up to a city the chaos factor of people driving was through the fucking roof. Almost like a hive mentality. The psychotic drivers were hellbent on getting to their destinations come hell or high water. So if that is any indicator of how city people are feeling it ain't good.

Re: Anyone thinking of going deep into the woods for a little while…
I'm sitting on 5 acres, everything is paid for, a well that pumps 30 gallons a minute, off grid solar on batteries, There is all the same wildlife around here that you have, except the feral cats, the ones my dogs didn't get, I shot, also all the non-native squirrels, both reek havoc on the natural wildlife, now there a lot more birds, lizards, snakes, frogs, ask Australia about feral cats, a menace, what else, I'm on the end of a dirt road with 80 miles of forest behind me, a stream that's .3 miles away where I've caught some nice trout, I had a quail for lunch the other day, doves are tasty also.

buy some mouse traps if you have a big problem, and stop destroying the natural wildlife with stupid ass cats.

The cats rarely go after the birds. I feed them well, as there are few mice around here now. I have seen them catch a few chipmunks and rabbits though. But there's no shortage of birds around here. In fact, I wish they would go after some of these chickadees, there's far too many of them. They steal all the ripe raspberries before I can pick them for myself. But, I feed these cats the best canned cat food now. And I also cook and feed them one large chicken breast or thigh plus about 6 ounces of roast beef every day to supplement their cat food. I found that necessary because I don't think their's enough protein in their canned cat food. They started losing muscle mass last winter. Their fur also lost it's luster and smoothness. Since I started giving them some REAL protein, they've gained back muscle mass, and their fur is once again shiny and smooth. And they have become much more active and happy. They are pretty muscular cats.

I love cats. I also built them an insulated habitat box the size of a large chest freezer with silent heating panels and heating pads for winter warmth. I actually just switched on the heating pads tonight because the night temps are in the lower to mid 40°F now.

They're all domesticated now. 3 actually live inside the house with me. I spend a lot of money feeding and caring for them and they are worth it. I live out here alone in the forest and they have become my friends. They are also good watch cats. They hear and see everything and alert me when there's something unusual nearby within the forest. I just need to look where they are looking to know where to check. They know which motion detection lights to trigger to get my attention. When the motion lights trigger, that trigger the security cameras and I respond by going out there to investigate.

These cats are of superior genetics too. They have to be to survive in the wild. They are very intelligent, strong, and surprisingly obedient. Their mother teaches them obedience when they are young because their lives depend on it out here. They are so obedient that I believe I could successfully go pheasant and turkey hunting with them. And that's something I am going to try next year. But I'll need a small game license. I could then feed them whole turkeys.

Anyhow, I love it out of here. When I retired in December 2015 I bought an RV to go camping in the wilderness 6 months every summer. But after a 4 years of that I found that I wanted to simply live in a forest all year long. Then after the riots in Minneapolis I decided to do just that. I got lucky finding this place available when I was looking. It met almost all of my requirements. The only thing lacking is extra space in the house. It's only 2000 sq ft, and that's simply not enough room for me. All my hobby stuff is still packed in stacked boxes filling about half of the basement. I may have to build another building for all of that. But for now there's high priorities, such as installing solar. I paid cash for this place and offered 10% less than sellers asking price and waived all inspections except for the septic system, so I got a good deal on it and we closed quickly. I wanted to move in here before winter, November 2020. I like the sounds of nature here so much that I placed mics outside that fill the inside of the house with those outside sounds 24x7.

The cats that were around here were living out here for years before I arrived in Nov of 2020, they lived where I'm at now under the cabin and at another place where no one was living at the time under a shed. 15 will become a 100, unless you plan on having them all spayed and neutered, have fun with all that.

There are a few other animals that come through here that maybe you don't have, cougars, bears, wolves, but there are no poisonous snakes to be found.

As for my house, it's quite a bit smaller than yours, and plenty big enough, the cabin and house both have wood burning stoves that are for spaces quite a bit larger.

What kind of hobbies do you have? Seems like a lot of stuff that will just collect dust

I prefer having to maintain as little as possible, one friend says I'm a minimalist, which may be right?

I'm certainly no minimalist. I have a lot of remote controlled toys. Some I've built from scratch (like my powerful Y-6 drone), and some I've bought (like a 1/10th scale 4x4 vehicle). Lots of spare and extra parts, components to build other things. Lots of radio gear. Lots of computers, media servers, networking devices, projectors. I haven't room to set up my 7.1 sound system and AVR. Lots of DSLR cameras and lenses and filters and lights and many boxes of framed photos (not enough walls to hang even a quarter of it). Bunch of electronic things, from parts to oscilloscope to power supplies and more... A lot of sci-fi books I've read during my life. And a bunch of musical things like midi keyboards and amps & pre-amps and speakers and mixers and digital recorders and synthesizers and groove boxes (my Mininova Circuit is my favorite musically toy, it can run on batteries and it's small enough to comfortably use in my lap anywhere I please). And more .. like artsy/drawing stuff, digital recorders and mics (I have many digital records I've made, from nature sound to city sounds to industrial noise and concerts and more. Even my kitchen isn't big enough for all my appliances (10" commercial meat slicer, my large vac sealer, my sous vide Cambro containers, and more, have to take turns sharing a counter spot when needed).

No I'm no minimalist. Not when I can take advantage of everything related to what I'm interested in. But that doesn't mean I can't live without any of this stuff. But life would become boring and dull and inconvenient without all of my toys. Electronics and photography and cooking (meats) are things I enjoy. And I've not really had much of a chance to get fully back into these things since I've moved here. But there's no rush. Primary desire is to simply relax and enjoy the tranquility out here. I'm so glad I'm out of the rat race now. I can hear my heart beat when the wind isn't blowing out here at night. I can see stars in the sky out here at night. I hear coyotes and wolves and barn owls at night now instead of vehicle traffic, police sirens, arguing drunks, and domestic disputes. And the air is clean. My water has no fluoride or bleach in it. And I can still order stuff from Amazon out here.
