Re: How To Keep House Warm Without Electricity: 15 Easy Tips
This is gonna sound crazy, but if you have a yard, garden or even a balcony, you can set up a compost heating system that will work 24/7 all winter.

Here's my system:

Get a roll of fencing mesh and attach it to an outside wall adjacent to the room you want to heat with a large cavity space to place biowaste. Use the cheap flue piping they use on stoves and make two holes, one at floor level and one high up the wall. You can use a window, cardboard and tape for the inlet.

Inside the cavity make sure the pipe runs through the centre of the space.

Fill with a mix of woody material and finer material such as weeds, grass clipping, rice husk, dung etc. in layers. It should be most compact around the pipe.

Wet everything down thoroughly and then make a mix of water and black soil or compost to kick-start the bacterial activity of breakdown and pour in.

Keep wetting regularly, pee is very good but water it down to avoid smell.
The bigger the pile the hotter and longer.
2M square is about the minimum.
The mesh allows oxygen in so you don't need to turn it.

The hot air rises and enters the room, dragging cooler air from the floor in. You can add a small fan to get more heat out.

Months of constant heating for as little as a few dollars and half a day's work.
It takes a few days to get really hot.

At the end you have great compost...

There is a more sophisticated version called 'Jean Pain' compost heating, which pumps water through the pile for radiators, underfloor heating and running hot water (60 plus degrees).

Two unvented propane heaters
10 or more small tall propane tanks full of propane
at least two carbon monoxide detectors

Heat one small room of your house to live in while the grid is down if when it goes down.

Drain water from pipes and water heater and softener in house before letting it go into deep freeze mode while you stay in heated room.

Have stored water and food and candles.

Simple.

I have heard that clay pots, the one's with the little hole in the bottom, put over a candle will heat up a room if you have a few of them.
 Quoting: Katballoo

Idiot.
A candle generates less heat than what leaks out through the walls.

The only way it works is if you use 2 or 3 hundred candles at least, maybe.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82524972

If your goal is only to not freeze, candles with some sort of heat diffuser will help as long as your house is insulated... depending on the size of space, 5 or 10 of them will make a noticeable difference.

You can use big cans of crisco... they will burn for weeks!
 Quoting: MajorMountain

Wipe your windows with a white cloth after burning candles for any length of time. It'll be black, this it what's going in you and your family's lungs.

Baking bread using tea lights and keeping warm.

[link to www.youtube.com (secure)]
Blackout bread, bake without electricity, with tea lights! Also for preppers can click on CC English sub-titles

Oct 8, 2022 What is blackout bread? A blackout bread is not just for preppers, but first and foremost, for everyone! We never know what will happen and there have been so many talks about a blackout in the past. A blackout is a power outage and we can all relate to this word. That is why it is important to be well informed. That's why I want to show you in this video how you can bake bread without electricity even in the worst case scenario, in the event of a blackout or power failure. I hope we never experience it, but it's always important to know how to help yourself. What I'm going to show you today is a worst-case scenario of baking bread without electricity if the baker's is out of electricity or your oven isn't working because of a power outage. And I promise and prove to you that it's not just any bread, but really good and, above all, delicious bread.

To bake bread with tea lights, you can use bread dough up to 500g. It is also important that you have two pots that fit into each other or that you have one pot that comfortably fits a baking pan or springform pan. You need enough tea lights (please pay attention to the important information in the video), these should have a burning time of at least 4 hours.

As described in the video, you should consider the distance from the ground to the pot as much as possible. Of course, this depends on how heavy the pot is and how much the grating pushes through. The flames of the candles should not touch the bottom of the pot if possible (and if they do, it is not so tragic). However, the heat directly above the flame is hottest and most effective.

If necessary, a normal stainless steel pot with a glass lid is also suitable as a pot, it may just take a little longer in it. A cocotte (a roaster) is best. This stores and conducts the heat best.

If you want to support me to see new videos from me in the future, please press "Like" and subscribe to my channel. You help me a lot to keep growing here on YouTube.

In any case, I wish you a lot of fun imitating it, because this is not just about the bread, but also about how good you are at improvising. Afterwards, the result tastes good too.

Have fun and bon appetit!

In the video I chose the following ingredients:
450 grams of all purpose flour or bread flour
1-2 tsp dry yeast
1-1.5 tsp salt
280ml of water

If you want to bake with 500g flour, use 300ml water. The rest stays the same.

Wheat flour or spelled flour, type 405, 550, 630, 1050, works best. Wholemeal should also work well. Rye flour only proportionately, max 15%
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

Candle Convection Heater- Winter Camping with my Off-Grid Stove!

"I designed and built a simple convection heater, ideal for: fishing huts, winter tents, or in my case...a snowmobile camper. It's in the prototype phase right now, but it's already showing some real promise! With the power of convection, it kept my sled camper warm, using only 4 candles! I've also designed the heater to use a small propane burner, to give it some versatility. After constructing my homemade heater, I put it to the test, by taking it on a winter camping trip."

seal your windows with plastic and/or tape. you'd be amazed how much heat you lose through windows.
dress in layers (obvious).
sleep in layers.

cold isn't really so bad. last winter i slept in 4 sweatshirts under 3 blankets because my windows weren't sealed. i have since sealed the f out of my windows and i expect to be much better this winter.

get bublle wrap, large roll, , tryto get the largest bubble kinds online., , clean windows, , wet the , lightly water, on one side of bubble wrap, and it will stick to your windows, insulation in winter., for any sunlight, but be safe, only those windows, not near any woodstove, or other., , you can do first the reg. sheet plastic, then try some way to add this , over those windows for more of a r factor solar. every bit helps.
