In these vortices, wind speed can be up to 10% higher than in the rest of the eyewall. Eyewall mesovortices are most common during periods of intensification in tropical cyclones.(<50%) [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] So this implies sustained winds of at least 210/1.1 = 190 mph. And that it's in a period of intensification. ..and unfortunately just looking at radar and sat.. its intensifying at landfall now.. eyewall will contract as it makes friction with land basically amplifying the effects.. it is literally the worst case scenario... The winds seem to have decreased, although they sustained quite long. The pressure didn't drop as fast as I expected. But the real damage is from storm surge near the ocean -- Fort Myers Beach and Naples. |
