Nord Stream 1 is out of commission since the compressors are all needing major work that has been stalled by the sanctions. Nord Stream 2, even though stopped before going into service, was still ready to provide gas to Europe on a moment's notice once Europe agreed to Russia's terms. Knowing that Europe would fold and drop the sanctions rather than freeze and watch their economy fall into ruins, the US dirty tricks department likely decided to remove the tempation by blowing a hole in the pipeline.
