Huh, that's wild. The Masons used to have a very strict rule against recruiting. To be considered you had to come and ask to join on your own initiative, without any prodding from anyone else.
I have heard Masons complain about declining membership rates though. Apparently a lot of the lodges are dying (literally), so maybe they're desperate enough to wave the recruiting ban?
