I'm a former Florida resident and the threat of hurricanes was one of the reasons that I left the state. I was there the summer they had 5 hurricanes back in the eary 2000s. One of the them was Cat. 4 Charlie. I was in the St. Pete area at the time and had to make a decision as to whether to leave or stay in St. Pete. They were still unsure the direction it would take. I opted to bail to Orlando and the storm ended up going there. Fortunately I made it to a shelter, but the metal roof was rattling from the 100 mph winds. The roof held though.

Thoughts and prayers to those of you there. If you are in a multi-story building it is probably safer to be on the lower levels unless of course incoming water makes that impossible.
Rooves flying off are not conducive to survival.
