I moved my daughter into an apartment in Tampa bay over the weekend. Had to look up flood zones and signed up for county alerts. She was in zone B.

Monday night I tried booking her into a hotel inland and nothing available that was pet friendly. I was going to send her to Orlando. Then my Flight back to NY on Tuesday was canceled. We decided to leave and went to st Augustine to stay with relatives.

They called for zone b in Tampa bay to be evacuated Tuesday morning. So they really didn’t know what was going on at that point or there is a huge delay in getting info out to the public.

Her friend left her home in st pete and went to ft Meyer. Then she had to evacuate from ft Meyer.

On my drive home to NY yesterday I listened to a local Tampa radio station. People were calling in with their stories. Two people mentioned that people in ft meyers were calling their friends in tampa to make sure they were ready for the storm when at that point it was known to be hitting ft Meyer. So that county did not get the info out quick enough.

My daughter is now in St Augustine power just went out, heavy rain and Tampa from live cams look clear. She never lost electric or internet in Tampa because she has a ring doorbell that never went down.

Myself as well . I went Hurricanes Alan and Alicia in Texas and Hugo in South Carolina. Lived through the Tornado in Xenia , Ohio that leveled everything and also went through one in Arcanum , Ohio that leveled the village when I lived there .
I’d MUCH rather go through another Hurricane than a Tornado EVER again!!
My heart sincerely goes out to everyone in Fla who have lost everything including their loved ones!!!

I don't want to derail this thread, but I am very interested in this topic.

I noticed a couple days before solstice that the Sun felt hotter. I walk along a lake every morning with my dogs. The sun burns my face at 6:30 a.m. The Sun is at the Equator now, yet it feels hotter than it did in May and August when it was directly overhead (I am 11 degree latitude). The lake is warmer than normal and for the past couple weeks it has been too hot for me to work outside for more than an hour or two. Normally I wear jeans in September, at least in the afternoon and early evening, but this year I am sleeping with a fan blasting on me and I still wake up with my pillow damp with sweat.

Last week I worked outside in a sports bra and shorts for two hours in the a.m. and I got sunburn on my olive skin that rarely burns.

There is definitely something different about the Sun's energy. I thought that this might have affected Ian (though I think the PTB may have steered it, too).

That's the beach not downtown. Ft. Meyers is still there.
