(Fame Pictures ) By TEDDY DAVIS and TALAL AL-KHATIB March 21, 2008 Font Size Barack Obama was able to take the focus off of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright on Friday by picking up the endorsement of (a bearded) Bill Richardson. Obama's allies are hoping the focus will stay off of Wright this Easter Sunday when the Democratic frontrunner skips services at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago and heads on vacation. Story Richardson Backs Obama, Rebuffs Clinton Per ABC News' Sunlen Miller, sources familiar with Obama's plans say the Illinois Democrat is expected to go on a tropical vacation with the most likely bet appearing to be St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Obama, whose campaign will not confirm his plans, is expected to leave Chicago on Sunday morning and will return either on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. ... Yes it happens. Is your life so small and uninteresting that you need to police who goes to church on easter? "You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. For him to NOT go on THIS Easter is noteworthy. He's doing it to avoid controversy over his hater pastor. Kind of looks like he's taking the 'easy' way out. I would have more respect for the man if he took a stand one way or the other about his relationship with that group. This way, he's just hoping the problem will go away. I don't care if he goes to church or not on Easter, it's WHY he's not going that catches my attention. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 219291 United States 03/22/2008 09:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I do not support Obama in any way but Christians should do their homework. Easter (as well as Christmas) has pagan rituals written all over it. Bunnies, colored eggs, yadda yadda...it is a diversion from the real story. And by the way, one DOES NOT have to go to church to be a Christian. Sadly, most churches today have absolutely nothing to do with Christianity. They are about prosperity, materialism and feeling good about yourself. This is just one of many places to start your journey to truth. Easter Symbols Eastre (or "Ostara"), the Anglo-Saxon Teutonic goddess of spring and fertility was often accompanied by a hare when represented. The fertile nature of rabbits and hares is another symbol of new life and the rebirth that occurs during the spring season. Also, German settlers in America are said to have brought over the tradition of a bunny named "Oschter Haws" who would visit houses on Easter eve, leaving colored eggs for children. Easter eggs were painted different colors to represent the sunlight of spring. Christians later used eggs to symbolize the rebirth of Christ. Another Easter tradition is the eating of Hot Cross Buns. These cakes were marked by the Saxons to honor Eastre, the fertility goddess. The crosses on the buns are said to represent the moon's quarters, while Christians see the cross as a reference to the crucifixtion. [link to www.history.com] |

EXACTLY, it seems like to me he is testing the waters to see how bold he can be in talking a talk but then not walking it, yet millions will probably still flock at his feet. Strange! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 355816Remember, Jesus preached against the church of his day. I agree. I haven't been to church in years, and yet I still have faith and pray. A building does not a church make. Your reverence is in your heart. The church I went to was so full of hypocrites, it made me sick. And also most of what has been reported about the sermons in question, that has brought him under fire, was taken out of context. It was pulled apart by the MSM and misquoted. You can catch the sermons in full on youtube, and there is another thread on here that has quoted Anderson Cooper from CNN, and he even brought to light on his show that it was all out of context and the pastor was actually quoting someone else when he made the remarks about 9/11. Very unfair of the media. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 368888Out of context when he was damning America ???? Here's the link to the other thread, that has the full sermon in text, and at the end Anderson Cooper says that nowhere in the sermon does the pastor say "G_D America". No one is sure what sermon that quote came from, but it was mixed into the clips that the MSM is showing to make it look like he's talking about 9/11 and G-D America all in the same sermon. For all we know, he could be quoting someone else with that also. Thread: ANDERSON COOPER TELLS ALL ON THE REAL MESSAGE OF DR JEREMIAH WRIGHT |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 397495Celebrate easter all you want and how you want. It's your life so do whatever you see fit. It's a good thing to have some insight into why we do what we do. Since the church and corporations make tons and tons of money off of these "so called" holidays by deceiving the public, it would be nice if the public was at least somewhat educated about the real deal. If you choose to remain gleefully ignorant then don't worry about it. Go color some eggs and shop for that hideously flamboyant easter bonnet. It's all good. I really don't even care whether he attends church on Easter or not, it's the MOTIVATION for avoiding it THIS Easter that concerns me. It is significant when a man who wants to lead a country of 300,000,000 people doesn't have the backbone to either stand with his pastor of twenty years, or make a break with him. THIS IS NOT ABOUT WHETHER OBAMA IS ATTENDING CHURCH ON EASTER. It's about the way he is trying to dodge the issue of his association with a pastor who has gotten some bad press, and is therefore jeopardizing Obama's chance at election. This is the squirrely way out. Not much HOPE here! |
