Thanks! I've wondered what the heck those things were!

I had one pop up in an unused flower pot & it got huge in no time & left the little pods everywhere.

We call them chinese gooseberries. I have had them growing for years now.
You never know if you'll get a sweet or sour one when you eat them, even if they're ripe looking (almost orange colour) so pick heaps before you eat them.

If it's not edible from root to stem to leaf to flower then it's not worthy of a pin.

I posted a topic naming plants that were completely edible.

Very interesting. This is quarter breed gal. They locked me out of my account and I can't sign in. I'm an herbalist and love plants. I know you've been here a long time like myself. I've been drying out nettle plants I'm foraging ...plus poke berries...despite their bad rap, poke berries have helped me so much. They clean out the andrenals and have anti cancer properties...I never saw this plant in the video...thank you

My property is covered with Miner's Lettuce, Dandelions, Rose Hips, Black Berries, and so on...

The Native Americans used to eat the acorns off the oak trees, but they have to be heavily processed to be edible. The fir and pine nuts are also edible.

Some of my herbs have spread around my property, as have my winter cover crops, like Crimson Clover.

My fruit trees have also spread, because of the seeds everywhere.

The squirrels also do a lot of planting of nut trees, and I have Walnut Trees coming up all over the place because of my neighbor feeding walnuts to the squirrels.

Physalis is an unexpected yummy to come across from the average foraging fare. Find them in disturbed ground.

We grow the variety "Aunt Molly's" ground cherries, you can get seeds anywhere. Far better than wild ground cherries.

Of course if you're foraging they still make a good treat but wait until they fall off the plant when you give it a little shake. That's when they are ripe, tasty and non-toxic -- not until then.

PANC is a very valuable knowledge.

Here, a good paper on the subject: [link to rsdjournal.org (secure)]

But then again, one needs to research a lot about local plants. Here in Brazil, PANC are very, VERY abundant. A gazillion species. Granted, not all of them taste amazing, but still are edible and some with advantages over conventional edible plants. More vitamins, protein...

They grow wild all around my property in north east Oklahoma I’ve heard them called lantern plants. They look just like tomatillo I’ve seen in grocery store only much smaller. A friend of ours uses them in picante sauce

That’s so weird. I just Found ground cherries and passion fruit in the remnants of my garden this morning. A little tart but good. Passion fruit is about the size of a tennis ball but isn’t ripe yet.

Humans shouldn't eat plants. They're full of toxins and antinutrients, which they developed in an attempt to avoid being eaten. Research the carnivore diet and how many people are using it to cure serious, chronic illnesses.
