I don't think the entire internet could go away for very long personally. it would just re-emerge re-routed and different is all. as it is now, they are controlling and censoring so much, they've actually already cut us all off from a huge swath of what used to be findable on the internet. that large mass is still out there and again, the one thing about how the internet at it's core operates, could easily be rebirthed in various ways... possibly even better and more free than it is now. not saying it would be overnight or even easy, but it most definitely could re-start again. |

The Internet like the others is now required for critical infrastructure to work. Our modern supply chains, utilities, and financial systems require it. |

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that the internet has made me able to probably pass a nursing exam with no formal education, but it’s not exactly a good thing. Just means any dumbass off the street can call themselves an expert. Then again, maybe it’s not the internet per se, but the cell phones that are crashing society in a beautiful dumpster fire….Beautiful in this context translates to horrifying. But nobody needs internet. As long as they were raised with old school normal grandparents. The best stories are told by the survivors. |

It takes years for it to cool down enough for the water to not he required. Without that network, that water stops at every nuke power plant. The fallout will be global, there will be no where you can escape to. Your life and everyone's here depends on that network. We could go back to the old ways, but that would be a mammoth job switching everything over, that would take decades and trillions of dollars. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 84296309 United States 10/03/2022 09:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Consequences of internet going full off nowadays: Quoting: MaybeTrollingU - Financial: almost everything regarding finances is now through internet. Transfer, payments, purchases, market, everything. If internet goes off, we will be set back about 30 years in this regard. Your cards will be useless, basically everyone will have to go withdraw cash on an ATM. But guess what? For an ATM to dispense cash, it needs to check your bank account balance, which is, guess what, through the internet. So the only way to withdraw some cash is go personally to your bank and even so it might be possible this wouldn't work. You see, all records of your account are online, meaning, your local branch might not have access to your balance, making even this option non-viable. - Communication: Telephony nowadays is almost 100% reliant on the internet. VOIP services are very common in many places and cell towers rely on the internet for synchronization. This means, that no phone calls for you or anybody else. Communications via internet also play a huge part on electric and water systems, so chances are that without internet, power and water might not work properly, if at all. Its not as if we, as humans, need it. But its one of the pinnacles that hold life as we know it today. So, would it be TEOTWAWKI? In a few ways, yes. Will we survive? Most likely, yeah, but life will be more like it was back in the 50's and 60's regarding infrastructure, but with tons of people totally unsuitable to live like this. 1) As a CIO of a mid sized company - yes in fact we would be in a TEOTWAWKI scenario. 2) I was born in 1960. Keeps it easy to calculate my age. Love my parents. No, most right now do not have the skills needed to be productive and survive. Especially those under 30. It would be rough. |
