'Putin has nowhere else to go... We should expect nukes': Senior British military commander warns that Russia's leader may lash out
The UK should expect Vladimir Putin to use nuclear weapons as he faces an inevitable defeat in Ukraine, a senior British military commander has suggested.

Retired Major-General Jonathan Shaw said there is not much else the Russian president can do given the failure of his conventional forces.

His shock warning came as Ukrainian advances continued yesterday, in particular near the southern city of Kherson, where Russia's frontline has collapsed, according to sources on both sides of the conflict.

Dozens of towns and villages were liberated in a matter of hours following the withdrawal of Russian forces, who were said to be cut off from their supply lines.

Kremlin troops retreated around ten miles, according to pro-Russian military bloggers.

Yesterday the Royal Navy confirmed that a frigate had been dispatched to the North Sea to protect gas pipelines.

Kyiv gives out potassium iodine pills to evacuation centres in preparation for nuclear attack on Ukraine's capital.

The city of Kyiv has said it is handing out potassium iodine pills to evacuation centres in preparation for a possible Russian nuclear strike on Ukraine's capital.

Potassium iodine pills can help block the absorption of harmful radiation by the thyroid gland if taken just before or immediately after exposure to nuclear radiation.

The pills will be distributed to residents in areas contaminated by nuclear radiation if there is a need to evacuate, the city council said in a statement - amid Russian President Vladimir Putin's disastrous on-going invasion of Ukraine.

He’s right Putin can’t lose. If his troops can’t win on their own his ego won’t let him walk away , he’d have to use nukes to save face. Even though in most normal people’s eyes using nukes is a sign of failure and loss. So sadly we almost have to root for a peace treaty or Ukrainian forces to surrender.

Nukes mean he can’t lose and won’t even though in reality he’s lost already. He’s the big loser here, as well as his people, who he has set back for decades. If he were Japanese he’d try and save face and jump on his sword…
